Hello everyone. Im sure this topic has been beaten to death so forgive me. Anyway, my the choice in scope that i was going to go with was a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40, however the only place that sells them is a 6 hour round trip away. So, i have figured out two more choices and would like some feed back on them. The choices are Leupold VX-I (349.95) and Bushnell 3200 ( 239.95). My ctriteria is bascialy ruggedness. It will be on a Model 700 CDL in 300 win mag. Which of these would be the best for this rifle? Or would it be more worth while to do the 6 hour round trip ( and extra $100 in fuel) and just get the Burris. Thoughts?

Is there a reason you can't buy online?

Of the scopes listed (VX-1, 3200, and Fullfield), I'd have more confidence in the Fullfield than the other 2.  None of the 3, in my opinion, would be ideal for a 300WM.

If yoou are wiling to go to $349 for the Leupold, I'd consider a better option to be the 4200 Bushnell.

I hear the Burris is a pretty good scope, but have no first-hand experience with the Fullfield line.

The 4200s are considered the "best buy" at this price point.  I would avoid the 3200 for a kicking rifle, and the Leupold would be at the bottom of my list.  Leupold is said to have great Customer Service, and if you put the VW-1 on a 300WM, you will probably get the chance to experience that - and it will die at the worst possible time, so says Murphy.

I thought about online, but I am going on a hunt this coming saturday so it would be nice to have it for then. But i mean it wouldn't be the end of the world i didn't have it by then.

I have 3 FF IIs and like all of them. One has been on my most frequently used rifle for 4 years. All are over 3 years old with no problems.
2.     What is the problem with buying from SWFA, the host of our sight. The scope will be delivered to your door. With a 110% price guarantee. Being only a little under 300 miles from my location most of my orders have been delivered in under 12 Hrs after placing the order. They have great service.

i guess maybe then a better question would be what would be the best scope ( within a reasonable price) for this sort of rifle?

 I have no problem with doing that except i live in Edmonton alberta, a little bit farther than 300 miles. but then i suppose if it only takes 12 hrs to travel 300 miles then it should arrive within the week.

My Remington 700 300 Win. Mag. has a 3-9x40 Zeiss with the Rapid Z 600. It suits me well. It depends if you want to learn a BCD reticle, or if you need more accuracy and dial your shots in.
Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow

Im not familiar with the BCD reticle. I've only really hunted with a plain cross hairs. However i think ive killed more animals with iron sights then with a scope. sad lol.

What are you driving that uses up $100 of fuel in 6 hours? Diesel truck?  Me and my wife do a 10 hour round trip every 3 weeks or so and it's barely $50 each time.  That's with the very high gas prices in Southern California.  I would get another, more efficient vehicle before getting the scope.  It's cheaper to fly right now than for you to drive...
 
A lot of people have said the Fullfield 2 is tough and lasts better than some of their more expensive scopes and you can get it with the Ballistic Plex for under $200.  It seems like there are more reports of their customer service getting better too.
 
I like the Vortex company a lot because they are people who act like real people and try hard to have the best customer service possible.  People who have their middle-of-the-road Diamondback scopes seem to think they are great for the price...probably similar to the Fullfield 2 with a warranty you know will always be great.  Awesome field of view on some of the models in the line.  It's nice their Dead-Hold BDC reticle has the ability to give you 1 mil and 2 mil values for wind holds if that stuff matters to you.

I did not know you were In Alberta. Your profile did not have your location. I am not sure that SWFA can ship rifle scopes to Canada.  What type of choices do you have near to you.  Maybe one of the local options will work as good for you to save that long of a drive. I would like to visit up there some time.

There is some beautiful hunting up here. Basically the only place, that i know of, is a Whole Sale Sports. However there is a Bass Pro Shop down in Calgary, about 3 1/2 hours away. Whole Sale Sports has a great selection of firearms but a rather poor selection of scopes. But, im not entirly sure they dont sell Burris, their website says they dont, but who knows how acccurate that is. Anyway, i am taking friday off work so it is possible for me to takea trip to Calgary and Bass Pro Shops. ( ive always wanted to go to that shop)

The Bushnell 4200 is less than the Leupold VX1 and it's a much better scope all the way around.
Remington rifles inspire confidence that most still strive for.
