Hey I am about to buy a Tikka T3 Lite for some coyote hunting around Boise Idaho. I am getting it in a .22-250 so the trajectory should be pretty flat. I have been looking at Nikon's new scope the coyote hunter, and like it because of the reticle. I am looking to spend anywhere in $300-600 range for a scope. I am probably looking to hit em out to about 200-300 yards, but also want to be able to do some target shooting. Any recommendations?

if the coyote hunter is anything like the bdc that my team primos has, it wouldnt be my first choice for my 22-250. i use a standard duplex on mine, at 200-300yards you probably wont need any ballistic reticule, and in fact it may cause more issues than do good. i just use a nikon buckmaster on mine.
for the amount of money you are willing to spend i would look at the zeiss conquest or a bushnell 4200 elite. |

I did a hasty search but came up nill so question one is 1.What is the max effective range in that caliber? I know you said you will be shooting 200-300yards,but if your rifle is capable of 600 than I would go with something that has mildot. You know the average height of a yote so the ranging would be fast and effective. Sorry I am a mil-dot or nothing man when it comes to bolt guns or anything other than my AR platforms. I do like the reticule on that Redfield that 338 suggested, but like i said i love mil-dot based reticules.

It is at the top of your budget range, but is a great value. The Super Sniper 3-9 variable would be a great choice.

I use a Bushnell Banner elite 6-24x50 on my Remington 700. It See's about as far as it can shoot. I tried a 3-9x40 on it at first and the cross-hairs covered up my target out at 300 or so.

In your price range you can find some very nice scope. Wince your shooting distance are not very long, you do not need a whole lot of magnification. A 3-9x40 or something along those lines would work very well. If you think you might be shooting at some smaller targets as well, perhaps you can expand out to 14x or so on the top end, but that is pretty much it.
Within 300yards with 22-250, you do not really need a holdover reticle, but it might not hurt too much either. Either way, you can get a better scope than the Nikon Coyote special in your price range. Here are some options in order of ascending price: ILya

There are so many options out there for what you listed it would make your head spin. With a .22-250 there isn't a whole hell of a lot of drop out to 300yds, in fact you are probably looking in the neighborhood of 6-8 inches negating the need for a ballistic reticle really. The big bonus to one though is being able to get instant feedback of how far you were off/need to correct if you can recover in time see the bullet hit.
Something wit low-end magnification would be good for movers, something with slightly higher magnification would not hurt for target shooting.

I have the Burris 3-12x44 on my .22-250 predator rifle and I have been very happy with it. Both the reliability and glass have been great.

I just "inherited" a Remington 700 limited ADL in .22-250 with walnut and polished blue finish. Never fired. It has a cheap tasco 4-16x40 on it now, but as I improve my Rem .308 PSS, it's Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x would be the ideal scope with fine crosshairs for coyotes. I hate to seperate it from the PSS, but, it's more of a small target scope, and a great one at that. Watch ebay, AFTER, hunting season, and put one on your watch list. The Vari-X (American made, or the VX-III, Asian? made) will be great scopes and within your budget. When hunting small varmits, you may want to save some money for a good spotting scope (like a scout/sniper team) for small furries at 300 yrds or more. Can't wait to put my new 250 to a pelt.

There have been some good suggestions, but i recommend checking out the Millett scopes, I have looked through the buckgold and the tactical scopes and though they are not super high quality glass, they are really good for the money and all will fit in your budget. I have a 6.5-25x56 35mm tube and it came with rings.

with a zero from 50yds to 200yrds with a 55 grain bthp your moa out to 350 is only 1moa. it hits pretty much the same with a 50yd zero as it does with 200yd zero, i use a buckmaster on mine & taken a cote @ 1,080yrd (didnt hav enough moa tho) and a deer @ 540yds with this sit up.
