I am in the market for binoculars to use for mule deer/elk hunting.  I would like to have image stabilization and rangefinder functionality in the same unit.  Does this exist and/or is it rumoured to be coming, Shot Show maybe?

I have considered purchasing Canon 10x42 IS binoculars and a weapon scope with built in laser rangefinder.  Any comments?

It appears to be more cost effective to purchase high quality separate binoculars, range finder, and scope.  Opinions?

Your name is great! I'm thinkin' we probably have a LOT in common!!!

I have exactly what you're talking about. I have the Canon 10x42L IS binos and and this: http://swfa.com/Burris-Laser-Rangefinding-Rifle-Scopes-C58.aspx

I'm one happy camper with that combo, period. The Canons, even though heavy and battery eaters, simply can not be beat for the money. I've got a new Swarovski HD spotting scope so believe me, I'd buy Svaworski binos if I  thought they'd be better. Here's the thing, it simply does not matter how good the glass is if you can't hold it still, period. I've got a buddy who owns Swarovski binos who put it quiet well when he looked through my Canons: PFM.

My rifle scope looks like goobertown geekomatic what-the-heck was I thinkin' right? Well, when it's dark and dusky, taking your eyes off the target can cost you big time. Once you're on the scope, you do NOT want to take your eye of the meat market! (I'm probably preaching to the choir) The Burris or Nikon rangefinding scope. I LOVE the thing, seriously. It's awesome. You just watch the critter, keep on ranging him until he's in your comfort zone. With the reticle and practice for wind compensation, there's no excuse to miss. They've got pretty darned good optics to boot.

The great thing is that if you mount a rail on your rifle, you can mount the scope rail to rail, no scope ring, perfect super beefy mount that's ultra low on the rifle. This scope is heavy though. BUT take the equivalent scope and rangefinder, they weigh just about the same.

The tool does it's job!
