I stumbled across the site/forum by accident and have found it to be a wealth of knowledge. If I had known from the start that SWFA was also a dealer, I would have placed my order here right from the start, but having just purchased a Nikon D90 from competitor , I discovered that they carried the Zeiss line of scopes at competitive prices. I ordered a Zeiss conquest 3X9X40 Z Plex from competitor about 5 weeks ago. I have checked with competitor every 10 days for an update/projected delivery date. Every time that I’ve called I get the standard “were sorry to disappoint, but it’s not our fault… the scope is backorders and Ziess is not telling us when it will ship/be available.” After getting the runaround for 5 weeks, I decided to do a little checking into the matter myself. I had an interesting conversation the Zeiss customer service today. When I asked them if there was a problem production or an issue with supply and demand, I was told that they currently had over 400 of the Zeiss conquest 3X9x40 scopes sitting on the shelf/ready for shipment in anticipation of an increase in demand inspired by the current promotion/$399 price. Furthermore, they verified that competitor was an authorized dealer, but that they did NOT have any Zeiss scopes currently on order. Needless to say, I was not pleased with competitor and canceled my order. Immediately thereafter, I called SWFA and ordered my Zeiss scope and rings here. When I placed my order with SWFA today, I was informed by the customer service rep I spoke with that the Zeiss conquest 3X9X40 Z Plex is currently NOT in stock… and SWFA had already backordered this item, but still did not have a confirmed ETA. Now I’m left wondering where the disconnect really is????? No one seems to have the scope in stock, yet Zeiss boasts about having a high inventory sitting on the shelf awaiting shipment???? I’m very anxious to mount the Zeiss Conquest scope on my new Marlin 1895 SBL that I already had to literally search the country for one of these weapons that are still being allocated and almost impossible to procure at this time. (FYI If anyone else is looking to purchase this new guide gun, I did find the one and only dealer located in Alaska that does not go through a distributer and I would be happy to share the info) The bottom line… does anyone know if the issue with the procurement of Zeiss 3x9x40 scopes is with the distributors… or Zeiss Sporting Optical Department???? PS. I was lucky enough to capture some beautiful Blacktail Deer in digital format and posted the link in the hunting section of this forum. In case anyone here is interested in checking them out, I will post the link here:

You actually caught us in the timeframe of which we ran out of stock to ordering more stock. We have more on order and will get your order filled mid next week. I gave you 5% off your order to make up for the delay. Sorry for the inconvenience. Brady |

Hey Brady, WOW!!! That was totally unexpected and greatly appreciated!!! Thank-you very much for the outstanding customer service!!! Your gesture combined with the expert advice that I have discovered reading through SWFA’s forum archives has already earned my loyalty. I want to clarify for the record that I was not in the least bit upset with SWFA for not having the Zeiss scope that I needed in stock yesterday. The intent behind my post was to get some feedback to help me understand if there is a problem with Zeiss’ ability to make their product available to the customer, or an issue/lack of urgency on the part of the distributors that dealers like yourself are sometimes forced to make your purchases through. Either way, when I patiently wait 5 weeks for a product that was supposed to be backordered only to have Zeiss customer service tell me/verify that the “competitor” never even placed my scope on order (even though I was told by the competitor on 3 separate occasions that it was) needless to say that I was NOT happy!!! I’m very happy to know that you are expecting to receive your backorder/fill my order next week, but even more important to me is the fact that you are giving me honest feedback and actively engaged in expediting the orders for your customers. If for some unforeseeable reason you are not able to process/fill my order next week, I’m OK with that as long as the person I’m dealing with is truthful/upfront with me. Honestly, If I expedited parts for our aircraft in that Navy the way the “competitor” took care of me… none of our aircraft when be airworthy and I would be fired! I learned quickly after drafting the above/original message that we are not allowed to call out the actual “competitors” by name because the camera shop/authorized Zeiss dealer that used to have my loyalty had been scrubbed/sanitized by a forum administrator before posting. No worries… They will never have to worry about filling orders from me ever again. I’m still very curious as to why so many competitors are currently out of stock on the Zeiss Conquest 3X9x40 Z Plex when Zeiss customer service is boasting that their shelves are filled with that very same scope????? In my mind there is still a disconnect… I’m just happy that I finally placed my order with a dealer that actually cares about their customer… Thank-you SWFA!!!!! Sincerely, Kevin |

Well Kevin looks like the happy ending has been postponed. When I contacted Zeiss to get a timeframe on our purchase order that included your scope and rings I got a response of "everything is shipping today". Well everything didn't get shipped. We got the scope in but the rings are also on backorder. You ordered the Zeiss Victory 1" permanent rings. These are actually Warne rings with a little Zeiss logo on the bottom of them. We do have the exact same ring in from Warne in stock which is $15 cheaper. Below are the rings with Warne on the top and Zeiss on the bottom. If you want to switch I can have the scope and rings in your hands tomorrow. Brady Edited by Brady - March/16/2010 at 08:27 |

Atleast your wait is not as bad as my wait here in Australia...I've got a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40, Weaver Classic Rimfire 4x28 and a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 on order at the moment from a gun shop near where I live. I've had these on order since before Christmas!
I've also got a Savage Mark II BTVLSS in .22LR on order...since late November!!!
Man, I wish they had SWFA here in Australia!

Hey Brady Thanks for the update! I’m happy to hear that you have my scope in stock/ready to ship!!! To answer your question about the scope rings, I need to ask if you have a projected shipping date? I’m currently on the road doing the military travel thing and was just extended another week. If the rings that I ordered are expected to arrive before the 24th then I can wait. On the other hand, if you are telling me that the Warne rings are the exact same in design and quality and Matt finish as the Zeiss that I originally ordered and you don’t have a solid ETA/shipping date, then I’m Ok with you shipping the Warne rings in place of the Zeiss. BTW, I could use a sanity check… I’m being told that the low rings will in fact give me the clearance that I need to mount the Zeiss Conquest on the full-length XS lever rail mount with standard Weaver crosscuts (picatinny) on my Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70… Is there any way that you can confirm, or will this be a trial and error situation? |

Talked to Sanja at Zeiss this morning and was told it would be 3-4 weeks before we get them. The Warne rings are the exact same fit and finish. If they had the little Zeiss logo on the side you would never know the difference. I’m thinking you will need the mediums.
This guy looks to have the same setup using low rings to mount his 28mm scope. It's almost touching the rail.
I would say go with the medium Warne rings and call it a day (the medium Zeiss rings are on backorder)
