I have a bud whos selling a sindero sf. I like the rifle but it's chambered in 300 rum. i know this round is awesome as far as ballistics and power but what babout ammo availability and cost. Anything else i should know about this round say compared to a 300win? also i can buy this rife for about half the cost of a new one. is it worth it?

I assume that you asking about ammo availiblity you dont' reload so I can tell you that the cost for factory loads will be higher than for a 300win mag. Other than thats it being worth it to you depends on if you need/want the gun. I dont' ever pass up a chance to buy a gun if it is a good deal. Do you know if it was maintained good? Cleaned after each season/shooting session. A good deal can be a bend over deal if its not going to be a shooter. JMO |

its like comparing the .30-06 to the .300win mag. the .300rum is a horse, but you can load it down if you want too.

i have a nice rcbs progressive press and a lee single stage but i never reload but atleast i have the ability to do so. it's a stainless syntheic gun so even if it wasent maintained properly it wouldent show aside for the damage done to the inside of the barrel. anything else i can look for when i go to check it out? and do you think the throat wear and the ammo cost would even affect me being i usually only shoot about a box a year?

a box a year wont cause any trouble, 100 boxes a year would though |

Pyro beat me to it. A box a year is fine. Even if it has some barrel wear a box of the Tubbs Final finish maybe able to smooth it right out if it does need some attention.

a bore scope would be a decent way to see the rifling but another way to test is see how the groups are on it. A headspace gauge may also be handy. |

Before I decide to purchase another rifle, I always look at whether I have any "need" for the rifle. Now I have a tendency to define "need" loosely, ie I like the caliber or the rifle has really pretty woodgrain etc. However, in this case I just don't know why you could possibly "need" a 300 RUM. I can't think of any hunting situation that wouldn't be better suited to a different caliber and the ammunition is not very common if you don't reload. If not for hunting, it sure would make a cruel bench gun...If I am going to target shoot I want something comfortable to shoot with.
I believe repeated exposure to extremely high recoiling firearms never has any definable positive outcome and can often have some severe negative ones like developing a bad flinch. Before purchasing I would just think carefully about why you really want this particular rifle in this caliber...you might decide you would be better suited with a more practical hunting/target caliber and or a different firearm. My .02 cents

Yeah its hard to get your hands but it is possible. I have finally recieved a box of the 22LR loaded ammo after about a 4 month wait. Have an old Marlin81 that needs some help and if this don't work it will be d for done! You can get teh components pretty easy and load it yourself though .
