    Posted: March/25/2010 at 20:05
Finally broke down and bought one for my AR.  Have wanted an Aimpoint for a while.  Kinda wanted the Comp M4 but couldn't justify the money.  Got it off the sample list and it came with the kit that has the quick detach mount.  I am happy.  Has the 4 MOA dot.  See how I like that.  Should be a lot of fun.

What do you guys think of that sight?

Helo, I haven't used one yet but am seriously considering one.  Let me know how you like the 4moa dot, i am not sure i would want that of the 2moa

I've had a couple of the M2's with the 4 MOA dots and I liked them a lot. Battery life is insanely long lasting, as well.
Good purchase, Andrew!

Did you like the 4MOA dot Mark?  Did you ever wish you had the 2MOA?

I have three Aimpoints a Comp M4s a Comp M4 and a  7000L which is similar to a 9000L and is a 4moa dot.   I much prefer the 2moa dot however I believe that you can adjust the intensity of the light down enough on the 4moa models to get fairly good accuracy.  The larger dot seems better suited to working under 200 yds where the 2moa dot is still good up close but seems to extend the useable range out further.   2 moa is 2 inches at 100 or 6in at 300 or 8 inches at 400  and the 4moa is double that and I dont think 12 inches at 300 yds is acceptable accuracy where I can live wiht 6 inches even though not ideal, but if you work wiht it so you know what you are getting that is the most important factor.   You will enjoy it - probably the coolest thing about the aimpoint is it is wonderful on a rifle that has crappy cheekweld like an M1a because cheekweld is simply not an issue if the dot is on it you hit it .

I've had several Aimpoints, latest with 2MOA dot, the 4MOAs are perfectly servicable, but I limit shots on the M2 to about 200 yards (the dot is covering over 8 inches of target at that range.)  The 2MOA gives a more precise aiming point.

It ain't a long-range optic, for what it does, it does it very, very well.

Both have great battery life, great durability, and I've never shot one out of zero (then again, at 2MOA dot size - or 4 MOA - it might wander a bit and I'd never know it.)

Hard to go wrong with Aimpoint.

Nope. I like the 4 MOA dot. It's a minute of man optic, to me.
I wouldn't rule out the Aimpoint Micro's either. It's my favorite optic to date!

I put a M2 on an AR sighted it in and shot a match with it, and put the ACOG back on it. Its not a bad scope for what it is intended for, but the ACOG fits my needs better.

Run the M2 on my duty gun and I like it better than the m4 AP I used to own. For me the dot just "looks" better on the 2 series but I liked the 4 better when I ran my AP magnifier. I now have an AP Micro H1 on my house gun and it works fine with the 3x magnifier. Aimpoint love is good. ;-)

I have really liked the aimpoints I used at different times.  That make a great product.  For what I do with the gun, I think the 4 moa will work great.  I can upgrade later if I need to but right now the longest shots I have taken are 300 yards and everything has been done open sight.  My AR isn't really set up for long range.  I want it for close to midrange stuff and fast acquisition.

Got my M2 4moa off the sample list a couple of weeks ago and actually have time to put it on my duty weapon this weekend.  Can't wait to see how it all works out. Big SmileBig Smile

Looked at the ACOGs a little, but didn't like them as much.  I wanted an unmagnified fast acquisition close quarter red dot.  So for me it came down to the APs or Eotech.  I had used aimpoints in the past.  Got to play with the techs a little recently and decided I like the APs better so that is what I went with.  Should get here this week sometime.

Concur. I never bought that whole field of view argument about Eotechs.
I use the BAC, as do most others using these types of optics and never considered FOV at all.

I've owned 1 and used many Eotechs, but always go back to AP's.
