Was asked what I knew about long eye relief scopes for a "handgun" it is a 12" 1:6 twist 22-250 ACK IMP that shoots 100gr and 110gr out to 1000yrds, he has a 40 MOA base... He is looking for a scope that is better than the BURRIS Signature 7x he would like to have 10-16x if possible or would like to know ho to get a "regular" riflescope to work but doesn't want to put his head 3-4 inches from... He also wants something with a good FOV... |

Hope he's willing to do his home work. This is one order that may be out of reach. With the Burris powering up to 7X it cuts the eye relief to almost half. Any 10X or above is going to close the distance fast. The only quick fix he may find is a rifle scope with an add on stock adaptor and a recoil boot on the scope. I admire his ambition but, a custom build may be the only option. If that is even an option. Good Luck.

The problem with a plus 30 or plus 40 moa base is that unless the scope has a tremendous amount of internal adjustment like a Super Sniper you cant get back to a 100 yd zero. Most scopes have about 50 moa of internal adjustent half of that is up that makes 25 moa to work with put that on a 30 moa base and you are 5 inches high at 100 with it cranked all the way down. With a 40 moa base it is worse. The only scopes wiht lots of internal adjustment seem to be 30 mm tube scopes and most pistol scopes are 1 inch tubes. I had a 3-12 Burris pistol scope but at 12x eye relief was too short to use with cartridges wiht any recoil. I would suggest he try a 16x Super Sniper to see if he can get bye wiht short eye relief.

This is 25 yds benchrest on sandbags about 15 to 20 rounds, it feels like Im shooting light 38 wadcutters in a 6 in L frame this bullberry barrel is scarey accurate where the TC barrels have left a lot to be desired and the TC 45-70 barrel makes up for the recoil it will let you know you did something, I used to have a .308 pistol barrel but traded it as one has to have a scope for each barrel to keep it sighted in, I actually was going to place the dot on a 22 ruger pistol but I wanted to shoot this since I just got it in, we have to hunt with straight wall pistol cartridges here or muskets or slugs so these are my hunting rigs and I would like to eventually put a 2x Burris or the variable Leupold on the 44mag as the 3moa dot covers the hole in the target so this can be more accurate with more magnification , still it about made the guy at the range next to me cry cause he was all over a larger target wiht his 45 XD.

It is an amazing barrel and makes me wish I had not waited so long to purchase one. I have bought more than a few TC barrels and for the most part been discouraged with the lack of accuracy the ones from Bullberry really do shoot much better.

Bullberry's price plus the cost of their forearm wiht its special hanger system tends to scare people off. They will install the hangar system on a TC barrel. Note it is about a 6 month wait to get something done by them.

Bullberrys been around along time, used some of their barrels in IMHSA, At that time Bullberrys had some long range handgun records (1000 yd) using 6.5s. Their TC's will outshoot most rifles. Most stock TC barrels have marginal chambers that cause headspacing problems on closing, as well as out of round.

Your friend has several options: #1 Purchase a Leupold 24x or 36x (preferably the BR "D") and then send it to Waly Seibert, and he will convert it to a LER handgun scope. I have one of the 36x's and it converts to about 20x. I have made LR connections out to 1800 on a prairie dog on a 6.5-284 XP-100. I have moved to rifle scopes on almost all of my single-shot specialty handguns, and have the 20x Leupold/Seibert scope for sale. #2 Learn how to use a riflescope on a specialty handgun. I use 5-20, 6.5-20, 8.5-25, and 8-32 power riflescopes on my specialty pistols chambered all the way up to a 338 Lapua Improved center-grip XP-100. Here is some info on using riflescopes on SP's: http://www.handgunhunt.com/promo/membership/features/readNewArticle.php?oid=12&title=Rifle%20Scopes%20On%20Specialty%20Handguns |

A lot of the IHMSA guys i shoot with use the JP Enterprise muzzle brakes and 24x or 36x rifle scopes on them. Most times the largest caliber I've seen them used on is a .308 tho. Quite a difference from the .338. That's an awful good looking set-up there Ernie. You could knock down rams with it I reckon!

I have used both 96.0 and 97.0 grains of Retumbo with the 300 grain SMK. Groups at 100 have been .4 or tad below for four shot groups off of a bi-pod. I haven't stretched its legs out yet. |
