The Simmons 2x20 for sure. Great scope for the money. The lower the power the easier a hand gun scope is to use, plus you don't need much magnification on a .22. The high powered scopes have a critical eye relief and narrow field of view. You will not find a better scope with out spending at least twice as much as the Simmons cost.

Chris. What do you think about a red dot scope? Are there any out there that don't cost a fortune? Thanks, Mike

A ton of fun on a .22. No eye relief, no parallax...just point and shoot. I would go that route in a heart beat over a magnified scope. We don't carry any inexpensive ones that are any good, dig around the net and see if you can find any Tasco Pro-Points for sale (new of used)...check eBay too. If your Ruger came with the rings, then search for a 1" Ultradot (good quality and fits the Ruger 1" rings).

I followed Chris' advice and picked up a Tasco red dot for my bull barrel Mk II and it is more fun than I could ever have imagined. Got the 10" barrel which is a little long but with the red dot on a plate shoot it is great fun. You can almost keep the pistol in constant motion going from one plate to the next with firing as the red dot passes the plate. Thanks, Chris!

+1 on simmons. Or any red dot if you are not shooting at small targets, ie 2inch targets and under. Most red dots will cover target that size, make it hard to get hits.

For the small critters I would take the Simmons. For sheer fun and blasting .22's, a red dot is definitely fun.

Those are all good choices. However, I have a Mark II "slabside" that, like most, is incredibly accurate. I swapped a guy for it, and it came with a Simmons 2-7x. While 2x is plenty for most handgunning, I have turned this scope up to 7x and shot prairie dogs out to 150 yards or so. If you practice enough over a good rest, that much power can be used. It just depends on whether you want to shoot that far!
