well i shot a bunch of 120gr ballistic tips and a group of 130gr accubonds, here is the best group i shot out of it today. ( probably the best group ever from that rifle) rangemaster mike told me his measurement was 5/8". im on the fence with the group, it will hunt i guess. the accubonds won today.

Distance? Wind?
Temp?
Altitude?
Velocity?
Load?
OAL?
Like the honest target displayed.
Doesn't look like you are leaning in which is good?
Forearm grip white knuckling or smooth and steady guide lay light support?
No sling grip or noticeable left or 9'o clock pull?
Pushing your palm up and holding tight will group right.
Maybe try cross arm front rested sand bag shooting bag, coat, or bi-pod
some like the understock left reverse cue stick approach.
Decent article.
Hopefully it helps a little.
Love the inegrity of the group.

there are actually a couple of groups in there, the one that is circled is the best group i shot today. i think there are 3 separate groups on that target. im leaning in plenty, the lead sled makes the length of pull so long a scope like my 4200 elite is hard to use on 9x. i dont touch the forearm when i shoot from the bench, i let it do what its going to do, fighting it to me seems counter-productive. ( i may be way wrong on that theory) as far as conditions, distance-100yds temp-50 something altitude-1450ft velocity- above book max 3200+fps load-65gr of h-4831 130gr nosler accubond oal-3.27 |

5/8" is a bad group from a factory rifle?

well here is my .300wby target. http://www.opticstalk.com/300wby-finally_topic25325.html i know im probably too picky, but i have a lot of confidence in my reloading ability. like my friend said, unless you go to a heavier contoured barrel built by shilen or lilja etc. you wont get a better group unless a lot of luck is involved. im going to use that load and see what she can do, maybe i will get to shoot it at something this season. |

I hear you there. I have some guns that will print groups like your 300 wby. And others that no matter how I fuss with the loads it won't. I am still working on my 300 WM to get it to that point. I know my 270 will do it.
But honestly, 5/8" isn't bad for hunting.

5/8 in. is good to go! +1 on the lead sled. I have the original version and sure takes the pain out of developing loads for the 300 rum.

I've found I'm much more accurate from my bipod prone than off the lead sled. Just seems there is too much play in the sled, and I feel much more stable on the ground.

I agree with you trigger. I like the bipod the best with a sand bag under the back.

2. When your squeezing the round you need to keep track of your head postion and the proper sight alignment. If that is off it can cause things that may-not look pretty on the target.
3. In addition to the above, when squeezing the trigger take note if you're squeezing the whole hand (milking the cow). If you're doing that, it will induce movement (remamber .008" / 1 MOA). It takes practice but you only want to try and move the trigger finger.
4. Adding more to the pile, take note of the rifle cant. For group testing, it needs to be the same, every time.
Thers's more but these are some of the basics

i think consistency is the biggest issue for me, making sure im aiming in the same spot, that im positioned in the same manner as the shot before etc. i havent figured out a way to do that yet.
