I was recently pondering this thought. How much would it cost to swap my sendero into another caliber rather than .300 win mag? I was thinking it should just be a new barrel and action right? The stock I have on mine is brand new, but the rifle itself has about 400 rounds through it, and I was thinking of possibly swapping it out. Let me hear some thoughts about it, kind of see what you guys would do. I'm not saying I would do it, or not do it, just seeing what you guys think.

some bolt faces will work with multiple calibers. I dont' know what the bolt for the 300 win mag is interchangable with but if you went with one was interchangable all you may have to do is change the barrel.
Why do you want to change and what would you want to change too?

I would want to change because I'm not completely sold on the .300. But I do like the great flexibility of that caliber with options and possibilities of hunts. If I did change, maybe down to the 7mm mag, but I haven't exactly thought or done my research on BD for either round. |

Gotcha. well I like my 300 win mag and my dad likes his 7mm mag. I've shot both, like both, its kinda a personal preference thing. Both will acomplish the same basic thing.

True, I just keep having the thought in the back of my head that the .300 is too big. I don't know where that came from but it did.

300 win to 7 mag is just a barrel change, but it is still a fairly expensive endeavor. I find the recoil of my 300 rum pretty tolerable due to the weight of the Sendero model.

I'm a 300WM fan, then again, I am a "bigger bullet" guy rather than a "faster bullet" guy.
Unless something is wrong with the 300, why incur the expense of swapping out, the 7mm will kick about the same, maybe a little less, but not much. |

Why do you say the 300 is "too big"? What is it too big for?
I have a 300 WM. Probably my favorite hunting rifle for all around hunting. I have never found it too big for any big game animal I hunt, and have never felt it wasn't big enough.

I've been thinking about moving up a bit to 338 Win Mag. You can buy ammo from 160 - 250 grains which makes it IMHO a pretty good choice for an all around North American rifle, Guess I'm always looking for a justification to buy another rifle

I just HAVE to ask... WHAT makes a rifle "too big" for deer hunting. I am interested in thoughts on this simply because I have been researching the issue for a while.

Seriously, Nothing is too big as long as the shooter is comfortable with it.

im not sure i would feel real safe knowing some dude is wielding a .50bmg in the woods, i mean really that thing could go through several trees and still kill me or anybody else around. ive shot through 3 trees with one shot last fall with my .375H&H and they werent junky trees either.

A rifle that would render the meat inedible would be too big. I once shot a rabbit at close range with a 12 gauge [ he ran right out from under my feet, practically ]................ I did not "collect" the bunny...........we just read a couple of Bible verses over him.

It's ALL about the bullet used. Had a guy show up on a deer drive with a .257 Weatherby using 75gr hollowpoints. After he finally got the deer on the ground after multiple CLOSE shots,he couldn't give it away.
