This one's probably been brought up before I'm sure.
I'm considering a CZ 452 or Savage bolt .17hmr for target and occasional "dilla killa".
Max shooting / 100 yds. Daylight hours. Don't want to overspend for overkill, but want enough scope. I've heard of guys with the same rifle with scopes maxing @ 15x. This seems a bit much.
What's a good, reasonable priced scope for what I want to do with it, or at least a power range.
I like to measure powder by the cup.

You can tell a lot about a man by the edge he keeps on his pocket knife.

2-7 or 3-9 will be fine. Take a look at the Weavers.  http://swfa.com/Weaver-3-9x38-Classic-V-Rifle-Scope-P2852.aspx Runs $169 the 2-10 is only $189 The Vortex may work well for you also. It really depends on your price range. The 17HMR is like a lazer out to 125yds and not much off at 150yd where it only drops 2.6" with a 100 yd Zero. Try to get the best and clearest glass you can afford. This round can make it happen. Better glass trumps magnification every time.
Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

I run 10x40 Bushnell Elite Tactical on my .17HMR Savage. Light, compact, tough,
and looking "tacticool." Big Grin It's around $200.

I have a 4.5-14x42 Nikon Buckmaster on one & a Burris 4.5-14x42 FFII on the other.  I shhot mine in open country well beyond 200 yards.  If you won't be going to far beyond 100 yds I would go for less magnification.  As previously ststed, always get the best glass you can afford.

For 100yds or less I think you'd be hard pressed to get a better scope than the Vortex Viper 2-7 for the price.

I have the 93r17 savage. I love it. I see now they have some with heavy barrels. Have you considered one of those. I am also in the market for a new scope for mine but not in a huge hurry. I have a little simmons on there now. It doesn't work too well at the higher mags, get a bit blurry but it holds zero. I was thinking about something in the 2.5-10 magnification range.

If it is mainly target the high power scopes probably are popular but for a gun you hunt you want the power range down lower.  I think I would look real hard at these.

I have a vortex crossfire 6-24x50 with a mil dot reticle. Opinions on how it would do on a .17 hmr.

It would depend on how you use the 17 but I think it would be a lot of fun to pop crows with.

I have a 4.5-14 on mine and it works well.  You don't want the low end power too high.  A 3-12 woud be pretty darn good, IMHO.
