I just sold off a Zeiss Conquest 4x32 and am looking to get a new scope on a 35 whelen. I have a couple of the Viper 2-7x32 scopes with the BDC reticle and like em quite a bit, so I was contemplating getting another.
If I do go with the little Viper, how do you guys out there using the Versa Plex reticle like it? If you had a "do-over", would you buy the same reticle again?

Regards,

Josh

HEY,Josh.  Sold off your 4X Conquest?!?!  Guess if it don't fit a purpose.........................   I've got one and like it ALOT.

Anyways,I've got the 2-7 Viper w/C3 on a 9.3x62 (or 36 Whelen  Bucky).  Wouldn't change a thing.  It seems that Minox is going to be offering a similar reticle before long.  I haven't found anyone on-line or who has looked through mine who doesn't like that reticle for the purpose intended.

It was a good scope no doubt but it left me wanting a few more X's...right now it's between a 2-7x32 and a 6x42....

I haven't heard a a bad thing about the C3 yet, good for fast target aquisition while still maintaining a relatively fine line for nice precision.

I think the BDC would be a nice match for the 35 Whelen's arcing trajectory.

Grimreaper...I haven't heard anything bad about either. I may have to order one of each (Vers and standard) and look through them for a day or two and keep one or the other.

Bitterroot...I kinda thought the opposite. I have a BDC on my 270 and 30-06. I figured I wouldn't need one on the Whelen.
Depending on loads it drops around 12" at 300 yards. I wouldn't take a shot much longer than that so I didn't really feel the need for a BDC. Although I may ponder the suggestion a bit, It would save me some money since I already have a spare Viper 2-7x32 w/ BDC on the shelf....hmmmm.

I got a Viper 4-12x40 a few days ago from SWFA with a V-Plex reticle. I haven't used it yet but first impression is  I really like it because the reticle seems thick enough for me to use at low light but not too course for shooting smaller targets out to 300 yards or so. Also glass seems bright and clear at dusk. So far I think I feel it is a very good bang for my buck especially considering the SWFA sale price I paid. As soon as I get it mounted and sighted in on my rifle I'll be able to give a better review. BTW, I am going to mount it on a Rem 700 223 to be used for eastern Coyote and Wood Chuck hunting.

sounds like a good plan to me.  if you want to compare the exact specs of the reticles, heres a good link, just click the reticle on the right side then click the specs tab.
