I know like any other Rimfire that ammo can work in one and not in the other but what have yall that have 17's found that is working good for you. I have heard claims that some of the stuff burns real dirty but don't know if that holds merit.

I've been using Hornady. No problems.

Unless something has changed CCI is the only manufacture of 17HMR. They make and re-brand all the others. Many times the only change is the color of the tip. Hornady contracted with CCI with exclusive manufacturing rights.

I haven't personally seen much difference in the performance of the .17 HMR and .17 Mach 2 ammo I've tried. Then again, I've only tried Hornady and CCI. They've worked so well and have shot so well out of my rifles and those of my buddies that I've not seen the need to experiment further with other brands. I believe 3_tens is correct about CCI producing the Hornady ammo, but not absolutely certain on that now.

The hmr was a hornady designed round so it would seem odd that they dont manufacture it. As with any rimfire the powder burns dirty. I read an article that says that the primer paste for rimfire founds has crushed glass in it. Anyways I have used hornady and cci etc, just about all and have not seen too much difference. Usually every 5 shots or so I seem to get a random flier. I think it may just be the nature of th animal.
