I bought a 4-16x42mm Sightron II for my .243 for coyotes, and now I'm looking for a scope for my new Tikka .204 Ruger. With a maximum usable magnification of 14-16x (for me), what scope brand comes after the Swarovski (can't afford) and a Zeiss Conquest (doable maaaaybe)?
I would rather wait if I have to and get the best that I can afford rather than hurry up and buy something just to be able to shoot. Thanks.

I hear ya! I had a compulsion buy on a CZ!7HMR and bought a crap scope (BSA SWEET 17) it won't hold zero no matter what I do. Anyway, I'm with you and shot it with open sites until i couls afford good glass.

Welcome to the OT avid!
As far as scopes down from Swaro, might want to look at Moinox Z3#'s,SWFA SS10X,Bushnell Elite or the Vortex Viper close outs. All very good scopes for a reasonable price.

There are some very good deals currently on Zeiss scopes listed on samplelist.com. The other side or back door of SWFA.

All of my 204's have high power scopes (18-20X). I shoot in wide open terrain and for the close stuff I have rimfires. I just picked up a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x40 (E.F.R.) and will probably end up on a 204 Ruger. The neat thing about the EFR line is it can be focused @ 40' on 20x. That could be handy in the right situation.

Conquest is a nice scope.
I would also take a good look at Minox ZA-5 3-15x50. ILya

I just wish Zeiss would put the Rapid Z Varmint reticles in 4.5-14x50 scope, I'd grab it in a minute.

I have one and will have to check to be sure but I want to say 50 yds. At 4.5x it is clear pretty darn close so I dont think it will be a problem. Not sure that the balistic reticles are not more trouble than just having a #4 and target knobs to dial in correction. I thought Tikka stopped making the .204 in a T3 is this an older gun or did they start making them again?
