Does anyone notice a huge change in impact first shot vs. follow-up out of their Savages???

What material is the Savage Barrel made out of?

Does this have to do with the Specific Heat Properties?

I have never had any other manufacturer of Rifle change so drastically in impact

First shot was similar in FPS but was drastically different in impact point, as much as 3 inches low at 100yards, each follow-up shot was dead on, 5 shot strings showed each first shot 2-3 inches low first shot, each and every one, I tried single feeding it without any issues tried quick changes.

I was wondering what your thoughts are, while I normal try to repeat something like this 3 or 4 times I think 2 times is enough to say each, first shot, was 2-3 inches low...

I have never noticed anything like this in my rifle. When the factory barrel got hot, it tended to open up(it could have been my shoulder was sore too), As far as I know savage uses the same chrome moly everybody else uses. Have you checked your head-space?
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

My favorite thing about my Savage .243 is that it will group in the same place hot, cold, clean, or dirty.  Does your stock contact the barrel?  All factory synthetics from Savage that I've seen were pretty flimsy.  Maybe that bipod and the weight of your silencer are somehow making the barrel and stock touch???

Sorry I can't help more, but the first thing I would think if shots were moving with barrel heat would be stock contact or bedding...

Have 4 savages in our family, all .22-250.  Have not seen this before, but will watch for it next time out.

Do you think the can puts just enough weight on the barrel to make it contact the stock? if so after the first shot (1) it might have just enough heat to make it push against the stock and make the POI rise on the rest of the shots? It also might be how the can holds the heat and disperses it while shooting. Say the first shot might not move the gas’s as say the 2nd thru 5th. Also have you shot a 5 string group in the same load with out the can to see if it might be the can doing this and not the rifle?

I'll try this again.
With the Savage that I shoot I have noticed a few thing. It has a heavey barrel and is in the same Bell&Carlson stock as yours, and is in .308Win..
If the bore is clean the first shot is always off zero, so I fire a few foulers before I do any serious shooting.
I would get 5 shot groups with 1 or 2 shots outside of a great group, and it didn't matter if the barrel was cool or warm. I did suspect a heat issue and I noticed that the barrel channel of the stock was not even around the barrel. I opened up the channel so that it is even around the barrel and this took care of the problem. My theory was that the stock was not allowing the barrel to cool evenly and causing it to warp. Don't know if this was correct, but the problem was corrected, and my groups are great now.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I would triple check the headspace.  Also check for stock contact.  I dunno what else to point at?
