This scope has been getting pretty good reviews...

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

That is a good choice. I like the Meopta's. Good value... I will have to say that the eye relief is not the best on the Meopta. Low light is decent, but not spectacular, from my POV. It will certainly allow shooting past legal shooting hours in most states...

The FX3 6x42 is exceptionally bright, more so than my 3.5-10x44Conquest when set at 6x.

Zeiss Conquest. Minox. Sightron Big Sky. I'd start comparing specs / models.

The Monarchs are decent scopes, along with the many suggestions given above.

The Monarch is a good "journeyman" type scope. I like Monarchs a lot. There is nothing I find "exceptional" about them other than that they are good in just about all respects. A little lacking in adjustment range, but they are mostly built for hunting at moderate ranges. Solid, dependable, good, American made, glass. I have a gunsmith who used to sell a lot of different brands in his shop. In 1999, one of his customers brought in a Nikon scope. Within a couple years, Nikon was the only scope he stocked.

For $400, I would probably pick the above Mentioned Meopta Meopro 3-9x42 with #4 reticle.
Reticle makes a big difference and most scopes that compete directly in this price range (Conquest, Minox ZA-3, SIghtorn S2 Big Sky) have notably thinner reticles. Meopto has pretty respectable eyerelief (longer than most Meostars) and good optical quality. ILya

I would go with the Minox ZA-3 for less than $300. It is a fine scope for the money

For low light you must have an illuminated reticle! In that price range ck out the Konus Pro Plus 3-10x44 illum, the more I use these the more impressed I am with them, especially for the money. If you can spend a little more go with the new Leupold VX-R 3-9x40 or 50mm which is one nice scope for the money.
