I had the opportunity to take my daughter on her first hunt last week on a friends farm in NW Nebraska. It was a whirlwind trip that saw us take 4 deer in less than 24hrs including her very first deer.. I also managed to take a nice Whitetail buck that had unfortunately broken off both G2's. The body however was HUGE and had to be pushing close to 300lbs undressed. It took all that 2 adult men had to get him loaded in the ranger.. I am so proud of my little girl for her first deer... That, and not my buck is the highlight of the hunt...

We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

FYI.. The rifle she is using is my wife's customized .243WIN with a Weaver Fixed K series 4X Scope. This is an outstanding little scope for the money with really good glass. If you don't need or want a variable I highly recommend this scope. I used my 7mm Mag with a Sightron SII Big Sky 3-9x42. The shot on the buck was taken directly into a setting sun and the scope performed flawlessly. Another scope I highly recommend to any that are in need of a good 3-9 scope.

Congratulations to you and your daughter. Hope to take my grandson on his first hunt in a few years. He is only 10 months old now. Will be getting his Mississippi lifetime hunting license in January.

Blood on the face! Glad to see some traditions are still alive. Congrats. I remember my daughters first deer well. We've been out 7 times this season and so far no luck; she's starting to get a little antsy. She usually has one on the ground by now. Maybe tomorow morning.
Again congrats.

Good job, and congrats. I'm sure it's the first of many enjoyable outings for you and your daughter. I just can't wait until mine are old enough to take to the field. |

Thanx everyone... Truly a memorable day. Fortunately some states (like Nebraska where we went) encourage youth hunting by allowing kids as young as 10 to hunt with an adult (my daughter just turned 11) and only charging for the habitat stamp and $6.00 for the youth deer tag even for non-residents. If you live in or close to a state that encourages youth hunting take advantage of it. Unfortunately Colorado where we live will probably never see the light so next year my son (turns 10 next march) will be going with me and hopefully we have that much success again.
