Dan,
Which hand would you like me to use? I was waiting for Brandon's comments, I'm sure those are going to be really good.

Looks good. How much resistance is there on the yardage dial? Can it be easily moved? It appears the numbers on the dial are easily visible when you are holding the bow and at full draw.

There isn't much, IMO it's perfect, not too stiff or loose. The numbers are very visible and spot on once you have set you IBO accordingly. I have shot TruGlo, Trophey Taker, and the Spot hog. This is by far the most sophisticated sight I have used.

nice video Skylar. Appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate. Did you put your yardage number on there like other dial in bow sights or what?

G,
No, Trijicon manufactures it that way, right out of the box. The yards dial has to be aclamated to the speed of you arrow. Most manufactuers like Matthew's, Hoyt, PSE, and Bowtech all post their IBO on their homepage, most of the time it's list at the max which is not normally how you would have your set up for hunting. Simply becuase when you in the treestand you don't want to grunt while trying to draw. So when you take the pressure down, that will directly affect your speed. I'm going to have to redo that video, That was my first one with music and I didn't relize the second song covered me up. Plus I want to do something with multiple cams for split views so POI can be viewed.

so the 20-25 and all markers are already on there. What process do you do to aclaimate it to your bow?

Yes, the dial beguins at 20 yards and then has 1 yard indicators all the way out to 80 yards.
What I did was return my bow to factory specs, because I didn't have a Chronograph to determine how fast I was flying. From the factory my bow sends arrows 317 FPS, which on the dial is about 5.25. The range is only 25 yards, but the manual says you should zero at 20, then move back to 40 and check your yardage on the dial. You should be spot on.

The other one... Good video and looks like a great sight. I may have to have one. Acclimation portends some learning or adaptation process. How does the sight "acclimate" to your bow??? |

Thank you for correcting my spelling. it acclimates the speed of the bow for the sight system to maintain accuracy from 20 - 80 yards.

Wasn't correcting, just wanted to know how it works... Do you input arrow speed somehow? Guess I could look it up...

You do, on the in side of the range dial there is a linear rod, that allows you to compensate for the speed that you shoot.

Great song's in the video... Great video also. Curb Your Enthusiasm will rot your brain and make you want to shoot a mattheeeew's.
NOW.....
The sights works just like a rifle scope. You know your yardage and FPS and know the dial for a dead hold shot. I have played with the unite on someone Else's bow and was not overly impressed, but I'm not a single pin type of guy. With This site as most the color and brightness wash out targets in low light in MY eyes with a darker back ground. To me in a hunting situation with a deer walking from 1 o'clock to 6:30 and a fairly swift walk the clicking would have me throwing my bow out of the tree. If you spot him at 35 yards your dialed in at 35. The deer take 5 steps while you stand up and get ready he is at 21 yards now.You aim (site set at 35 as in the heat you forgot to dial it down) shoot hit 2 inches high. You just shot the NO ZONE. With pins I can move into my spots of pin distance with out ever lowering the bow from full draw.To me this is more of a Target/tournament sight. I'm not saying it's bad for hunting I'm saying I'll not use it for hunting. Plus There is a knob for me to be turning and playing with while sitting in the stand. After sitting for 30 seconds I would have wore the clickers off the knob.LOL.
Helpful hints. When you draw back open your left hand and put your finger tips lightly on the face of the riser. This will help with your right and left hits and bring them in closer. Loosen up the bow strap that will help with your up and down, more up than down. Also when you shoot don't grab the bow( your left arm went all hulk when you shot). let it fall foward. You ain't going to drop it.

I bow hunted for quite some time. However, as time goes by, I become more and more convinced that one day I will hit badly and lose a deer that is wounded. I don't have that creeping doubt with a rifle...

Brandon,
Thanks for the compliments, I am planing on re-doing the video. There are a couple things that I want to change. We can have this argument all day, your Hoyt vs my Matthew's. Your Really nice Z71( )vs my Cummins, it's personal preference. Your right about the sights, super easy to use, like dialing a riflescope. You know I haven't had the bow long, but it came with a five pin truglo. Then I went to the spothog, because I could never get the Truglu to work consistently. They are easy for adjusting your range on the fly. With the single pin, you still have to determine range, but you have to adjust the dial. I think it would make for a great 3D system, and I'm going to try and hunt with it this weekend. Maybe try and video the hunt as well. Thanks for the pointers, I have to say, I was kind of nervous, not becuase I don't know who most of you are, but because others can veiw it as well. B, all joking aside, I really appreciate your input. Merry Christmas. |

I can empathize with that, I was going to elaborate about how age can affect vision, but you have the hubble for back up, so I'm going to bow out gracefully

Has nothing to do with vision or age, Donkey-boy... (that's polite speak for jackass)...
Seriously, I've got/always had this big fear of losing a wounded deer. Second biggest sin when I was growing up... My grandfather helped me build a longbow when I was younger, I've never had any problem with bows. However, the facts are that wounding rates with bow/arrow are easily 1.5 times that of rifle hunters. If I don't get to practice as much as I want, I jiust won't use the bow. The last few years, I've only bow hunted a couple of times. If I hit a deer with my .458, I have no doubt of the outcome... I'm not going to have to look for the deer... |
