Just spoke to a very nice guy at the Leupy custom shop. I was curious how they were able to get the eye relief out of this tube, but not any old one I picked...learned alot about scope geometry today :)
If this were a true 1X at the bottom it would be the ne plus ultra scout scope IMHO. As it stands, I'm still gonna order one and see. I bet it's better than anything out there (Let's see, fixed 2.5x or fixed 2.5x or....uhhh.....) 5x top end with the hornady loads? gonna make 100 yards cake off a bench.... Inquired about custom elevation turrets but was told the scope would have to be retrofitted with a different turret first as the finger turn doesn't support their custom knobs. Anyway, SWFA got everything as right as possible on this one, as usual. I'm gonna be putting in for one of these in the next couple weeks. |

wait a sec looking at the spec sheet it lists CDS turrets for elevation and finger click for wind....almost like they wanted you to be able to buy a custom bullet drop turret....I tend to believe the gent I spoke with earlier though over the spec sheet, but I could be wrong
Anyone know for sure? |

Welcome to Optics Talk, Paul.
Just got my VX-R 3-9x yesterday. Still kicking tires on it, but so far so good.

Hi, found this scope and forum and I am interested in getting one for my RGS rifle that I am in the process of buying along with a Thompson Machine THIRTY can. My one concern is with the eye relief. Is 6.75" of eye relief on high power enough to clear the front of the action? I can understand if the ocular is over the receiver ring, but photos of the RGS that I rind with scout scopes make me think that the eye relief will be insufficient to clear the ejection port.
Here is one with a Burris 2.75x20. That scope is rated for 14 - 8.5" of eye relief and even that is mounted over the receiver ring. Assuming the Burris is mounted at 8.5" of eye relief, that would put this scope about halfway over the ejection port. Does anyone have one of these scopes mounted onto a RGS? Where does it have to sit in order to be able to use the highest power? Would I be better off with a Leupold 1.5-4x28 and give up the dot? (I'm still kinda debating between a scope or a dot sight.) /Figured it would be best to ask this in this thread, rather than start a new one, since I'm sure I won't be the only one asking this question. |

Does this really have the CDS elevation adjustment?
Pics say otherwise, but description here and in the swfa listing say it is CDS. |

Replying to my own message...
The item description on swfa no longer claims CDS elevation adjustment. Too bad. That would have been a very nice touch. |

Does that mean that they'll be shipping soon, or are you just teasing?
I called Leupold nearly a month ago about getting one with a CDS dial for elevation. They wouldn't even discuss taking an order, saying they have no idea when they'll be shipping any. |

Gentlemen
Anyone interested in purchasing one of these scopes can contact Leupold directly and order it from the custom shop. It is a few dollars cheaper at SWFA but while it is on backorder Leupold custom shop might be the best place to go. In the previos posts there was concern about the CDS turrets... I ordered one of these scopes from the custom shop and had it retrofitted with the correct turret system to accept the CDS turrets for $60.00 per turret (windage and elevation) for a total of $120.00 extra. You can always send the scope back to the custom shop at a later date if you cant afford the retrofitting at the time of purchase. Each turret I ordered (I ordered two: one for a Buffalo Bore 350 gr and Remington Express 300 gr) cost an additional $29.00. Worth it in my opinion. I mounted it on a Marlin 1895 Guide (.45-70) and will repost once I zero it. Max Point Blank for the Remington 300 gr is 258 yards so I will zero it at 100 and post the results. Leupold Custom can be contacted directly at 1-800-LEUPOLD, ext 493 and ask for Jeremy. He will take care of you. |

"Scout" scope in name only.. I agree the eye relief doesn't sound like its enough to clear a bolt action. |

Shouldn't be long at all.
These are 100% made through Leupold's Custom Shop and in most cases take about 12 weeks for fulfillment, I want to say last we checked, they were on the tail end of being completed. |
