I was tired of my bipod legs sliding around while I was trying to get behind the rifle, (I shoot in a gravel pit) so I decided that I would make some new feet for it to keep them from sliding around. This is what I came up with. What do you guys think?

Wish it was that simple. They were actually made on 3 machines. I roughed them out on a manual lathe at work. Then brought them home to put a finish on them. Took them back to work to finish them on a manual bridgeport mill. Once I got the basic bell shape done, and drilled them for the leg to go into, I just ran a 5/8" ball end mill across it a couple times.

Very cool. I could use some. What does it cost to get a pair for mine?

Some stainless, a couple machines, a couple hours of your time..... I made most of these at work. I don't have a running mill at home.

Cool design and nice machining, as always. I got a set of spike feet for my bipod and have only tried them with the stock since I'm still waiting on the barreled action to get Cerakoted. They certainly grip on both grass and concrete but are heavy and pointy. I doubt I'll use them except for at the range or if I get into competition. These look like they'd weigh less and wouldn't stab you in the head while hiking.

There's not really a noticable weight difference from the rubber feet. I took as much off as I thought I could. The part that goes over the legs is only .050 thick, and the solid portion above the claws is only about .150.

I would expect you stabilized your bipod significantly. Looks as good as anything I've seen "out there".

Knew I shouldn't have posted those.......... I guess they weren't too bad of an idea. I'll have to see if I can get my mill up and running, and figure out how to use it. |
