Hey. Just got my A7 synthetic stainless in 7mm rem mag last Nov.Although I haven't fired a scoped rifle much in my life and not for years, within a few trips to the range I was shooting sub Moa groups at over 300 yards. Well I was able to shoot 10 shots at 325 yards and 7 of them were within less than 3 inch group and 3 strays were within 6 inches of the centre of the grouping. That is using a Caldwell bipod on one and and my shoulder only on the other. No lead sleds or anything. I am sure the results would have been amazing using a lead sleed or some other shooting rest. The ammo I used was cheap federal 150 grain soft point. I have tried several other ammos since then always with similar results. Well, my shooting is actually getting better too.

For the money its really hard to beat a Tikka.  I have a Tikka 300WSM and owned a Sako A7 300WM I found that the Sako AZ was fine with factory loads but the magazine was shorter than max length when reloading and I have another rifle in 300 WM.  I like the Sako rifles but the Kimber Montana is an awesome rifle I would love to have one.  There used to be a great video of a guy shooting a Kimber Montana with a Leupold 6x42 FX-3 Competition Hunter Riflescope . When you load  your own ammo the cost between calibers is about the same but if you use factory ammo you need to look at what is available and the cost of it.  30-06 and 270 factory ammo can be had anywhere and cheap.  The more exotic the cartridge the harder it is to find unless you plan ahead.

Welcome to OT, Marcus!
The Sako A7 is a nice rifle. I hope you have many happy days afield with it!

I love Sakos.  I also like Tikkas...they do anything the Sako can do but without the fancy....

I understand the Sako/Tikka synthetic stocks are crap....but I don't like synthetic stocks so that doesn't concern me.

Brownell's Water Displacing Oil ( actually for after-bluing...) will keep your blued steel rust free in wet weather.  It stinks, and it's poisonous....so don't lick your fingers....

In Africa, a scarred-up, nasty, beat-up Beautiful walnut stock is kind of like a badge of Honor....like having 24 inch spoked wheels on your Mercury!!
