Anyone have any hands-on experience with this rangefinder? I am looking to get a rangefinder, $500 max budget, need to accurately range deer to 300 yards.

I have it. I, like ccoker, had the RX-II. After the second time I sent that POS back to Leupold (it wouldn't range anything except a mirror), I told them how frustrated I was. I also said that I was just going to buy the Leica, unless they wanted me to give them another chance. I agreed to pay the original difference in MSRP for the 1000i with TBR. It works, and it has the one thing about the leica (aside from its reliability) that I wanted -- the illuminated reticle. Mine works like a charm, it's great in low light, works as advertised, and I couldn't be happier for only $100 more than I paid for the RX-II. Works in bow mode, rifle mode, holdover mode, angle mode, and the "A" "B" "C" ballistics modes are fairly close, but not perfect. I've accurately ranged out to 800 with it, so I know it works for anything I'll use it for. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you.

I bought one last year, clear optics, decent price i love the OLED(illuminated reticle) i considered getting a nikon 1200 and compared both side to side and the second i looked through the leupold i knew i was sold on it. Although it may not be as high end as the Leica I would not hesitate to save myself a few hundred dollars and buy the rx-1000 again. Ive recomended to many of my friends as well. Great gadget to have. hope this helps

Definitely get the Leica, I had a Leupold RX-III, it sucked arse. It would not even range our 25 ft cargo trailer from 400 yards away. I had a Leica crf1200 and it was excellent, I now have the Leica Geovid 10x42, very awesome as well.

Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

For what it's worth, if I was getting one from scratch, I would have gotten the Leica as well. The only reason I went with the Leupy was that they gave me full MSRP for my RX-II, and I only had to pay the MSRP difference. Great customer service, at least in that instance, and it does the job. The difference in glass in the RX1000 and the Leica is substantial, however. Not even close. Leica wins.

The leupy is nice. it will do everything you're asking (and do it very well) however as said before the leica has better glass, and not just a little better. a lot

I have the Leupold RX-1000i/TBR DNA an it is AWSESOME!! The difference with the older Leupolds and the newer ones are the DNA computer system in it. The DNA brain is truely just amazing!
