Hello, I am new to the forum but have been stalking for a few years.  This is my go to place for any questions I have about optics.  Thanks for all wonderful reviews.

Ok, I have a 300 RUM and looking for the best scope possible. Budget $1500... It will be my first alpha glass purchase. Yippee

Looking at two options:   Leica ER 3.5x14x42  VS  Swaro Z5 3.5x18x44
although I haven't ruled out others like Zeiss, S&B, Nightforce.

I am leaning towards the Leica but have doubts/questions on the warranty.  Its been said swarovski has great customer service.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the OT...

Give us some details on what you expect to be doing with the rifle, what kind of ranges, etc.  You have some varied scope choices there...

Its a toss up between the two really.  you get slightly more mag range with the swaro but the glass in the leica supposedly edges the swaro out ever so slightly according to some.  I myself just bought that exact z5 your asking about, mine has the BT which is very handy

I am currently in the process of testing the Leica 4.5-14x42 and so far I am very impressed with the scope.  I have not had it for too long, so take it for what it is, but this is a hell of a nice scope.

Swaro is not slouch either, but based on a rather cursory look at this point, I think that Leica ER edges out Z5 slightly.  I think Z6 is more of a direct competitor for the Leica (aside from the magnification range).

Thanks for the Responses.

I will use it for Deer, Elk and Oryx with ranges up to 500~600 yards.

As far as the reticle. I haven't decided, maybe a ballistic but not sure since the Leica has an elevation turret.

Thoughts on reliablitly with Leica with 300 RUM?

I just sent (into SWFA) a Leica 4.5-14 X 42. Keep your eye peeled on the sample list for a great one.

Thanks for the responses Yippee

I will keep an eye on the samplelist.

According to the website, the ER comes in 2.5x10x42 and 3.5x10x42.  Are you guys testing something new from Leica?

You never know if Leica will stay committed to the scope market.  They've been in and out before.  Swaro would be the easy choice for me in this case.

Right now you can get Swaro Z6I series 1 version for a fantastic price under new scopes on SWFA,it will cost a little more than the Z5.I've owned both and you can,t go wrong with any of the top scopes!

Forgot top mention I read that  Leica is being sued by Swaro over some reticle & illumination issues, that is why the illuminate Leicas are only being sold in Europe!

Hey, thanks for all of the input.

Is there a Zeiss or others comparible to what I'm looking at, within my budget? If so, what would you guys recommend?
