If you are buying factory then get some Hornady TAP (168 A-Max).
If you are still unhappy with your scope what is your price range for a new one?

I'll go to the range and try the max 600 yd and if it works then i gotta find myself 1000yd range. If 600 yd doesn't work then ill sell it.

Have you shot at these distances before?

I am buying factory, but never tried Hornady TAP (168 A-Max).  I'll give it a try.
My price range is $600-700.  Any suggestions?

The longest I shot was 400 yards metal target about 8" in diameter.

Those little hangers at Angeles?

A used VX-3 LR/T or Sightron S-III is what I would look for.
I'm partial to the 6.5-20 & 6-24.
But, I have several 4.5-14's, and they will do the job.

900 yds in Pala across from the Casino. I just moved out here and that's where I might do my shooting.

That is around Temecula, right?

If he goes to Angeles, then that is likely a bit far for him.

Angeles has plates out to 600 yards (that is where I do most of my scope testing), so it is a good place to practice.

Next step up locally is the range at Lake Piru which can take you beyond 1000 yards.

I looked at the SIII line, specifically the SIII SS 6-24x50 LR MD.

this is the only reticle that is not confusing to me all the others had either 1 dot or too many hashmarks.  this one gives all the letter dimensions, but it doesn't specify the length from dot to dot, would that be "B"? and "D" is basically the width of the dot?

If you can hit those little hangers at 400, then you should be able to hit the larger plates at 600 yards with little difficulty.  Keep in mind thought, that if you are using the reticle, you will either need to hold a little high, with the last holdover point or dial the magnification down slightly from 20x.  That reticle is calibrated for flatter shooting rounds.

That is a standard Mil-Dot reticle.  The dot spacing at top magnification is exactly 1 mrad and yes, that is dimension B.

I'll give it a try this weekend try to reach the 600 yards.  Do you think 308 168 sierra matchking BTHP would work for 600 yards or beyond?  Velocity at muzzle is 2650, the drop at 300 yards with 100 zero is 15.3".

I come up that way once in a blue moon.  What are the hours of operation for that range?  Do you have to be a member?

It should work reasonably well out to 850 yards or so at the altitude where you are shooting.  It goes through a transonic region at around 900-950 yards.

For anything you might want to do at Angeles, this is a good load.

As a general recommendation, if you are interested in longer range shooting, try to get yourself to think in terms of angular units, like mrad or MOA, rather than in terms of linear units, like inches.  It will make more sense in the long run.
