Want a nice hunting scope for my 300 win mag and can't decide between the Zeiss Victory Diavari 2.5X10X42 or the 2.5X10X50? Which one would you choose and why? Thanks!

I'm not in that class of optics, but I went with the 4.5-14x50 conquest on my 300WM. Love it. I like the additional exit pupil. Let's me leave the mag up at 7 or 8 in low light. That's the real difference in my opinion.

I bought a 50 when I needed to hunt in low light but I prefer a 42 as it doesn't get hung up on things & it's also lighter & cheaper. The real difference is as DCA said.

I generally go with 50 if above 10-12x
I hunted with a Victory FL 4-16x50 and would have to back it off to 12 to really see well past legal deer hunting time 30 min after sunset (like for hogs or watching deer) At 10x and good glass I think a 42 is fine I will probably hunt the most this season with my S&B 1.5-6x42 as where I will be hunting the max is around 300 yards for these blinds we put up. That scope will enable me to easily hunt at 250+ to the legal li It and them some. So, I would say 42 if you want to keep the gun a little lighter and lower profile or if you really want to stretch the time out a few more minutes then go 50 |

I own the Zeiss Victory Diavari 2.5-10X42 which is mounted on my custom Mauser '98 in 7x57.
I chose the 42mm objective as it allows the 30mm tubed scope to be mounted slightly lower to the rifles axis, thereby preventing the whole package from being top heavy and so unbalanced.
If I need maximum light transmissin I turn the magnification down to 6x. With the FFP there is no change in POI. At 4x my son has shot bushpigs in RSA at last light when they were invisible to the naked eye.
You will not be dissapointed with either scope which have magnificent optics and construction. I doubt in the field you will be able to tell the practical difference between the 42 and 50mm objective.

Thanks for the comments! I was leaning towards the 42 but found out that Zeiss has discontinued them in the 2.5x10 victory diavari! Does anybody know where they might have one for sale! New or used! Thanks!

I chose the 42 and couldn't be happier with it. I don't like the extra weight and size of a 50mm scope on anything I'm going to be carrying much. The place I bought mine had another in stock the last time I was there. PM me for more info.
