As I got it yesterday from Cabela's.

Some surface rust on the metal, dings and dents in the stock and lots of crud but the bore and chamber are nice, the trigger wasn't as bad as I was afraid it might be. I put 10 rounds through it just to hear it go bang and to the rifles credit it put all 10 into a 4 inch group at 25 yards which for me starting off cold offhand with open sights isn't half bad.
I did a thorough cleaning. It's looking much better all ready. I don't think this poor thing has been cleaned in at least 10 years. Short of the cosmoline on my Enfields I have never seen so much congealed oil, hardened grease and powder residue. It's a wonder it would even fire.
I have a Redfield 75 receiver sight that I am going to put on it as soon as I find the mounting block that fits holes that are all ready drilled and taped in the action.

I got the trigger adjusted down to a nice 3 lbs after cleaning it so Im going to give it another try today if it stops raining long enough.

Nice rifleBig SmileBig Smile. What are 69A's bringing these days? I have one that unfortunately someone tried to do a poor homemade checkering job on the pistol grip. (Looks like with the tip of a screwdriver).Loco Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape.

I paid $220 for this one. I've seen some on the auction sights going for $500-$600 and more depending on model and condition.

Very nice! Looks to be in good condition for a rifle of that age. Since the 69's were discontinued prior to the 1968 GCA, I believe Winchester produced those rifles without serial numbers, is this correct?

Just needs a little TLC and it's as good as the day it left New Haven!

You are correct no serial numbers.
From what I've been able to find production started in 1935 as the model 69. As such they were cock on closing. They were changed to cock on open in 1937 and became the Model 69A. The last year of production was 1963.
The grooved receiver and swept back bolt handle on mine dates it to any where from the end of WW2 to the end of production in 1963.  Quite a span

I saw a beautiful Model 72A a couple of years ago....basically, a 69A with a tubular magazine....although, I don't know if the 72 could have it's trigger adjusted like the 69.

This was a beautiful rifle....a late model with grooved receiver and a half-inch scope mounted on it ( rear sight removed )....they wanted $400 for it......

.....wish I could have scarfed it.......Whatever

I love these old rifles I learned to shoot on an old Winchester 22 bolt action like that at age 3.

50 yards prone unsupported.

Too many years of scoped rifles. I need lots of practice with open sights.

I didn't shoot the 5th target because I ran out of ammo.
I didn't adjust the sights because they are going to be replaced with a Redfield 75 and a globe front sight as soon as the mount gets here. If my Enfields are any indication these sights should help a lot. Now that I have said that I'll probable do worse.
Yes I know it's an archery target. It was ether that or a silhouette.

Well it will tighten up when you put on the Redfield 75 receiver sight so I would not worry about it just keep shooting and enjoying it.   When you realize the target to the right is one inche squares and the concentric circles represent one inch its not that bad Im sure you could kill small game with it reliably enough to eat.
