Well, I've finally taken my first custom rifle to the range yesterday!
Was nothing more than break-in really, but it was a blast, and I'm already seeing that she's going to shoot! I just started loading a few up to test for pressure, and see what speeds were going to be. I started at 89 grains of Retumbo, and worked up to 92, 1 round each. Then just to have something to shoot a group with, I loaded 5 @ 90.0.

First shot was WAY off the mark, even at 50 yds, so I dialed down, and shot 2 at 100, then the final adjustment, and shot the 92 gr.

Then I put up another aiming dot, and shot 3 of the 90.0 Gr. loads.

I started getting a bit excited, and ran down there to take this picture. I should have just stayed and finished the 5 shot group, because by the time I ran back, my heart was pounding, and I'd broke my firing position. (which wasn't much, but a bipod, and a towel shoved under the back.)
I'm not too familiar with the trigger on this yet, as it's lighter, and breaks much cleaner than any of my others, so it catches me off guard a bit, and I pulled the 4th shot right. The 5th went right where it was supposed to, for this group.

Probably alright for the first one. Gunsmith told me it should start grouping at rounds 7 to 12 somewhere. These were shots 5-10. Group measured .462". Hopefully with some load work up, and work on the nut behind the bolt, she'll do even better. This group would easily have been in the .3's Had I not pulled the one right. And I knew it when the trigger broke...... I wasn't even ready yet. Anyway there she is. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I'm enjoying her. (which isn't possible)

That's awesome!

She is a kitten to shoot with the brake on! Far less recoil than my .300 WBY. Loud as hell though. Maybe I'll shoot better when it's warmer too. Was 28*, and pretty breezy (12-15 mph) yesterday morning, and genius here wore a sweatshirt.......

Yeah my 300WM long range hunter has a break on it that you can turn off.  It makes a heck of a difference  Just choose noise or kick... Smile

Peddler says, I love my .257 Roberts and I like my .270 and my better half loves her new 6.5 Creedmoor but all we do is hunt in upstate NY.

You should send those pics to Sen. Feinstein and see if she is impressed with the sub MOA? :)

I going to send DiFi a recommendation to ban .270's... then maybe she'll leave the good stuff alone...

Then I'd have to get rid of my " old " and I mean old CZ BRNO 600.

Jason,
I've got to get out to visit soon.  Would love to go shooting with you.  I've renamed the 338, again.  Thanatos just didn't fit... Thanatos was the god of "gentle death"... so... Keres is the new, and final, name.  Sisters of Thanatos, the Keres... goddesses of swift, ruthless, VIOLENT death, spirits of slaughter...

I don't know, seems fitting...

Yeah, well, I haven't had much luck with CZ's.  I've purchased two... neither worked...CZ700 is still being repaired.
