NOT the grossest/slasher movie... the actual SCARIEST movie you ever saw that haunted you for years, made you sleepless, made you wake up in the night...
Scariest movie and WHY

Whoa.  There are a bunch of scary ones.

Back when I was a kid some of The Twilight Zone episodes scared the hell out of me.  I remembered those episodes for years!!  The episode where Inger Stevens is driving across country and keeps seeing the same hitchhiker over and over again...

For me it was "The Ring". Midnight movie while at college, freaked me out for months afterword. I was sitting by some random girl and grabbed a hold of my arm early on in the show and never let go. I had bruises the next day. Lol

"The Exorcist" for me... that and "Amityville Horror" (woke up at exactly 0315 for years after that), but Exorcist was scariest to me...

" THE EXORCIST freaked Eduardo out!!  He hadn't read the book, but he had heard about the story, of course, because it had taken a couple of years from the time the book came out until the movie was released.  So Eduardo goes to see the film, gets the Hell scared out of him, and then he goes home that very night and stays up a few hours and reads the book before turning out the lights!!

Was he crawling under the covers that night!!! "   Eek

Yep....the Amityville Horror was scary!  I had read the book before going to see the movie!  The book freaked me out first!   [ A few years before that I had returned to Pennsylvania to see my dad and I had gotten myself stranded there, as usual.  I got a job driving a semi and used to drive it into New York City and Long Island....right near where the Amityville murders took place.  As a matter of fact I was driving through Long Island in 1974---the same year that the murders happened!! ]

"Jaws" scared me.   Shocked

" Ed no sooner sees the movie JAWS when he moves to Freeport, Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. "

" For years afterwards, Eduardo would be standing in the surf looking out at all that water and telling himself that that was only The Top of the Water!!! "

" If a little fish bumped into him, or a piece of seaweed touched him, Eduardo relieved himself right there in the Gulf!! "

For me it had to be "Night of the Living Dead". I saw it when I was around 9 years old, since then no movie, not even Jaws, was that scary to me.

I think the narrator says the title of the movie about 10 times in the trailer, yes we know, lol.

I saw that movie thirty years later on TV and I thought it was spooky.  I was also amazed by the fact that it was a low budget ( kind of ) amateur movie that did a good job!!

A long time ago during the filming of some horror movie back in the thirties or forties, Boris Karloff said to the director: ' This scene is a little dull---let's put some cobwebs up here so that I have to walk through a bunch of them.'

The director wanted to know who that was supposed to scare!

Boris Karloff said, " It will scare men! "
