Bought a Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 Z-800 last year. Didn’t use it at all, since few week ago to get ready for hunting season. Sighting-in perfectly at 200 yard, than tried it at 400 yard and the line #4, was bang on. I bought this scope because of all the review I was reading. Indeed; awesome scope, very clear/bright. But this thing is weak has a toothpick. I am in full hunting mode right now, I took 2 weeks off only for this. Today I'm at the beginning of day 4... Only saw black bears and does, no big buck yet. As I`m walking I heard a metal noise clicking. I taught it was my sling swivel, after few minutes to try different trick to solve that issue. I notice shacking the rifle, it was coming for the scope. I looked in it from both side, and OMFG ! I don’t see Cheet in it, image is all crocked and there is a piece Literally loose and rattling in the objective. I’m in the middle of the rut, looking for my buck and my $$$ ZEISS $$$ Broke down. I would say it’s a POS, but I can see the blades coming from everywhere. So I will not say it. What am I going to do now ? My scope is USELESS, ( $1000) Warranty will take week, even more (Canada) My hunting season is scrap because of ZEISS. |

I had the same thing happen about 6 years ago on a prairie dog hunt. Send it back and they will get it fixed. They have some of the best service out there. The one I had fixed has had over 2000 shots since it was repaired. Occasionally a scope gets assembled on a Monday after the big game. By the way you did good on your pictures.

That like hitting the lottery to get the one out of every 6 years.
I was real pissed when it happened to me. I got over it. I learned to wring a rig out to locate any flaws before a big hunt, and keep a backup scope. |

Yes, it sucks! And I would be pretty damn mad, but it is a man made object, and sooner or later they all break... Sorry about your hunt, but Zeiss will take care of you.
It could be worse, I have broke many a truck, that didn't have a life-time warranty while hunting!

I have two suggestions or you.
1. Always have a back up rifle ready to go. 2. As you have learned the hard way, always test new equipment before relying on it. Sorry, but it is as much your fault if not more than the fault of the scope that your hunt was ruined. |

is all ways a good idea to carry a spare scope and or rifle/scope on a big hunt.
ANY scope can fail regardless of name or cost. hell a friend of mine pulled his el-cheapo scope and put a lupy on there and guess what?--LOL! kind of embarassing for the lupy! truthfully i haven't had many scopes go bad in the field --even the very cheap ones. i do sort of "run them through the wringer" a few times before i put any faith in um , so if they fail on me it is usually on the set up bench--or at the zeroing in. hell send it back maybe they be so embarassed they will give you a free upgrade. |

Another vote for always having a backup rifle with you.
Good luck, hope everything works out for you. |

Yep, you have a loose erector assembly. Anything mechanical can fail. Conquests are very good scopes, but they aren't immune to failure, nor is any other brand. You have every right to be upset, and I can understand you being down on Zeiss at the moment, but you're just a victim of statistics and bad luck. Zeiss wouldn't have the great reputation they enjoy if their scopes were remotely failure-prone.
Zeiss will take care of you. Never trust brand new, untested gear on a big hunt. Regardless, always bring back-up gear. I always bring 2 extra rifles with me on a hunt... just in case. As my late father always said "I like to wear a belt and suspenders too." |

Buy a Leupold next time. Here in South Africa anyways. I have never had a days problems, but have changed a reticle or two. In each occasion a loan scope was provided. Friends who did have a problem was also given a loan scope to use. Normally a brand new model and scope is given as the loan model. Your down time is nil.
One would expect the same from Zeiss.
I don,t agree that your predictament you are in is your fault. Hells bells, a Zeiss should not do that.
