Hypothetical Question for the experts:
If money isn't a factor, what would you consider the top 5 BEST scopes in the world to mount on a bolt action .308 rifle. You'll be using the rifle for punching paper (mainly at 100, 200, and 300yds but occasionally @ 600yds.) but it will also be used to hunt whitetail and hogs. Scope weight isn't a factor but bright, clear optics with accurate, durable adjustments are important.
I'll get it started. I have to admit that I don't have direct experience with a couple of these but I'm going by reviews & reputation coming from who/what I believe to be knowledgable sources.
1) Schmidt & Bender 4x16 50mm Variable Hunting scope; 2) Zeiss Diavari 3x12 56mm; 3) Swarovski PH 4x16 50mm w/TDS reticle; 4) Kahles CL 4x12 52mm w/MultiZero; 5) Nightforce NXS 3.5x15 50mm
*Honorable mention: IOR Tactical 4x14 50mm w/MP8 reticle
What do you think??? Help, as I am trying to decide whether I want to start saving my pennies to one day have one of the best there is in the optics world.
Thanks! Edited by ceylonc |

I believe the accepted notation for these things would be 4-16x50 mm and so on. Edited by anweis |

Ok - Money is ALWAYS a factor. My .308 Savage has Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50 illuminated mil dot. My Rem 700 PSS .308 has a 20x Super Sniper. The Win Coyote light 300 WSM has a Super Sniper 10x M and I have a Leupold Mark 4 10x M3 that is hoping to find a new home on another .308 soon. And thats how it is in the real world. Why - Because they work every time.

The schmidt 4-16 is great, I love mine but it's a big scope
Leupold 6.5-20 is a great buy but big too Steiner 2.5-8 ismore compact to go with a 308 but try and find one Leupold 2.5-8 is also a great trim scope If this is a sporting class 308 the best all around scope is the good old Leupold 6x 36mm with dot and CH |

Hello Ceylonc
I would go with
1.US optics 2.Zeiss 3.Schmidt & Bender 4.Khales 5.Swarovski
If price and size was not a issue and it was for a .308.
