Any recommendations on a weapons light for a home defense AR? Pic rail attachment preferred. Would like the ability to add a pressure switch if it doesn't come with it and would like it to have the strobe feature.

Surefire 6P in a LaRue QD mount, very effective, and if I want to take it from the mount and use it as a flashlight, I can. I am moving away from as many single-use items as possible, so I avoid weapon-specific lights whenever possible. |

Viridians is very small and bright, it also strobes. I have one on my Kel-Tec KSG for the same reason. I wouldn't swap my 14 rounds of buckshot for your 30 rounds of 5.56 for home defense though. Now you have a reason to buy another gun!

Depends on how much light you want to throw out, but if you have a Pic. rail one of the pistol lights from Insight or Streamlight will work and put out between 130 to 180 lumens. If you want more light, then there are several companies (Orian is one I think) that sell flashlight kits that can be set up as weapon lights with Pic. rails. They come with the pressure switches, mounts, etc. and the lights have different intensity settings and modes. I've got 2 lights from different companies. One produces 600 lumens max. and the other is about 700 or something like that. The down side is you need a dedicated grip or rail cover to hold the switch (something else to track down and buy). With the pistol lights you just attach them to the rail and activate them with your thumb or finger. I'll try to find the brands and web site for you if your interested. |

I got CFII getting me a Streamlight TLR1s to try out. may be to much lumens but I can always use it on a hunting rig. Still exploring other options to but needing something sooner rather than later I can depend on.

After trying different styles of lights I decided to keep it simple and cheap with a couple Streamlight LED Poly Tac 120 lumen flashlights with click switch tail caps mounted in 1" weaver tip off rings. They mount and dismount quickly on rails, are reliable and tough. However, these don't have strobe capability and I don't know is Streamlight makes pressure switch tail caps for them. I also like the dual use feature of being able to use them as hand held flashlights and I can easily switch them around among my ARs and shotgun. Used Weaver rings are cheap and plentiful at gun shows and appear identical to the logo mounts G G & G Tactical makes.
