Good morning gents,
Just bought a Savage 116 in 30-06, I will be mounting my old faithful Bushnell 4200 3-9x40 on it. I have Talley lightweights that I really like on other savages but those are short actions. I've heard long action savages can be a pain to find the right combo of rings and bases. What would you guys recommend for this setup. This is a classic looking hunting rifle so i want to stay away from any rails or tacticool looking mounts. Thanks |

I'd stay with the Talley's, but I don't have any Savage's and cant really tell you what part # you need specifically, but call Talley and ask them. They are VERY nice people and whoever answers the phone would be happy to help you, I'm sure.
Call this number, get your info, and then order from SWFA. 803.854.5700

From Talley's webpage concerning extended mounts.
I'd call Talley and ask them what they recommend for your given situation.

Thanks guys!
I called Talley and left a message, got a call back within an hour. They said I should use the medium height extended unit. Ordering tonight! http://swfa.com/Talley-Lightweight-Aluminum-1-Scopemount-P5025.aspx |

Outstanding!
Did Talley recommend the extended mount, due to your rifle being a Savage long action? I ask for the gentle reader who may come across this thread down the road and wonder. (This forum is full up with Remington leg humpers.) Thanks!

They recommended the extended because yes the savages are longer than normal and mediums so that the bell of the scope clears the bases. With extended lows the bell would hit.
I'll report back with pics of the rig all setup. Remington leg bumpers.....Lol awesome! |

From one who has both and likes both Savage and Remington, that's a very nice rig. |
