I avoid the whole issue by avoiding Remington.  Someone needs to tell Remington that the average height of American Men is no longer 5' 5" like back in the 1830s.....they need to put in some freaking Length of Pull on their stocks!  ( and.... fix that oops problem of guns going off accidentally! )

.....controlled round feeding would be another good idea for Remington to embrace!   Big Grin

Negative, Ghost Rider.

The trigger on that rifle is decent as-is, but I might one day elect to Timney it.  All other Remington and Remington pattern rifles I own have aftermarket triggers. I like Basix triggers as well as Timney. Jewell is a step above those, but I typically don't see a need to go whole hog into Jewell on a hunting rifle.

My hunting partner has a Jewell trigger on his 700 .300 Ultra Mag.

I'd as soon go with a Jewell trigger, thank you very much.

My grandfather's old Remy is the only m700 where I didn't upgrade the trigger, there is a difference.

No, but I have actually seen a real bench before.  :)

Maybe 35 years ago, a shooter who I respect very much educated me about Timney and Jewell triggers and I've never explored any different viewpoints. His word worked for me, back then and stuck like a cocklebur. I'm sure there are several viable trigger options out there and I have no reason to be popping off about Timney triggers from personal experience, since I have none.

I checked Remy website and my sole M700 doesn't need a trigger rpl, but Remington said I could have 20% off a website purchase as a consolation prize.

I had a Remington 722 once that had a fine hunting trigger....it was a 300 Savage so my face creeping up on the bolt shroud wasn't much of an issue....

Well the Hill Country build would be a bit more than an old one but I'm sure a whole lot prettier. Either way I'm sure you'd like it.

Get a 308 and rebarrel....

I got lucky and found a Remington 722B De Luxe gathering dust in a gun store in Hutchinson, Kansas years ago.  98% condition.  Discontinued in 1955.  It had never had a scope mounted on it!  24 inch barrel.  I traded for it.  I put a Redfield 3X9 Compact scope on it!

Freaking nice!!  Big Grin

I thought the case rims were identical.  I have seen zillions of 300 Savages rechambered for 308.  My Sierra Book is lost somewhere in my big mess and I can't lay my hands on it right now....but I think they are the same dimensions.
