HELLO
I just wanted to say hello. I'm on here to just ask a few questions about swfa's 3 x 15 scope and such. and a few other things. I have lurked on here a few times throughout the years and it seams to be a farely friendly place. Please forgive my poor typing skills i dont do that very often this little bit took me about 10 minutes. steve |

Welcome to the OT, Steve. Great place with a lot of good folks and tons of great information. I don't personally have the 3-15x SWFA SS, but I will say that I held off on buying the 3-9x42 SS during the tax day sale for the sole reason that I hoped that the 3-15x will be part of the Black Monday sale in November. From everything else I've heard, it's that good. Best of luck to you, and again, welcome.

Hello ct
I was mostly concerned about how fine the crosshairs are. They arean't too fine for close up 30 yds or so are they. T the only other scope that I own that i could think to compare them too was a scope that i got from a friend when his father passed away, A straight 36 x leupold target scope and those crosshairs are way way too fine for in the woods. thank you for your time steve |

Steve below are the subtentions for the 3-15.
One thing that we offer standard with every SS scope is FFP Reticles. Since the position of the reticle is forward of the turret housing. The benefit to this, is that when you magnify your target image, the reticle is relative to the target image. This will assist you with ranging and DOPE correction. Now if you are hunting in heavy woods, too much magnification will be a hindrance, because with more magnification....you will have more narrow field of view. If you are looking to do close range hunting in thick woods, not many high mag scopes are going to fit the bill. This especially true of FFP scopes. The SS does have the three heavy bars that come into the center when the mag is turned down, but they don't terminate in a cross-hair. The scope does have a parallax adjustment down to under 10 yards though.

Welcome to the OT Steve. The 3-15x42 SS is an awesome scope for the money, and very versatile. It won't fit every application, but it will handle a lot. |

On a first focal plane scope the crosshairs are rather fine below 6x so at longer distances is where these FFP reticles are at their best on the 3-15 and 5-20. The 1-6x howver has an illuminated circle that makes up for it in close fast action shots. For anything under 200 yds Leupolds Heavy Duplex or Trijicons illuminated post are my favorite reticle choice but the #4 reticle like on an IOR Valdada fixed 4x scope is also a fine choice for close up brush hunting. I llumination makes a big difference when shots are close and fast. Aimpoints red dot is a very fast scope for close work .

Hello
Thanks everyone for the responses. I apoligize for not being more active on the thread that was started by me. but i am working on a 9c1 caprice that i am stripping down to have hauled away motor, tranny, everything is falling off of this car. Because everything can be used for spare parts on my other 91. So i have been busy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. heres something interisting the car used to be a psp car while i was taring the dash apart with a pry bar may wife was there talking to me. and a 100 dollar bill dropped out from under the dash I i said to her good now i can go pay some strippers and drink some beer the money disappeared and ended up in the envelope to help with the electric bill. i just dont understand where her priorites are . Anyway the gun will be used for mid to long range primarily 100 - 1000 yds. I was just wondering how bad it would be close up and i think that question was answered thank you all. this thread will give everyone an idea what i am building http://www.opticstalk.com/axis-20moa-steel-base-what-will-fit_topic39792.html if someone would be kind enough to go look.. Midway usa was out of steel 20 moa bases, Is there any available here. That i could purchase. I allready have the 3 x 15 in the cart also a 10 x 42 swfa that i am going to put on a 22 for a more in expensive long rang practice gun. Thankyou for your time everyone steve |
