These are .224 Sierra Match Kings that I crimped using a Lee Crimp Die and pulled thereafter. I feel I may have "over done it", which is how roll, but are the rounds unsafe to use in my AR? I realize the deformation of the bullet may decrease accuracy, but like I said, these are for my AR and I'm more concerned about bullet set back than I am about sub MOA accuracy.

By "unsafe" I mean will there be an unsafe increase in chamber pressure.
Thank you in advance.

Looks like a little to much to me, But don't crimp anything at all ever so I don't have much knowledge in the crimping area.

Wow, that is a heavy crimp. Have you checked into getting a taper crimp die?
Where does your load fall in your loading manual? If your close to max, then you MAY not want to run a steady diet of them through your AR. |

I don't crimp anything at all either. Even in my ARs I don't. Never had an issue and I have loaded and shot well over 20,000 rounds out of my ARs.
SMKs do have very soft jackets as well, so it doesn't take much to dent them. |

If near max I'd pull them.
I'd also check the ones you have pulled to make sure the heavy crimp didn't make any bulging in the bullet body near it with a micrometer.

I haven't ever crimped either, but I'm half scared of a set back round going off. Good point about the soft jacket on the Match King. I honestly didn't think I was putting a whole lot of pressure on the press arm when I was at it, so I'm a little surprised that it has that heavy of a crimp. But, like I said earlier, rarely have I ever messed up something by a lack of effort..... Thanks again, Fellers.

One has to wonder if that amount is sufficient to cause a problem given that the lands do a much larger amount of damage to the bullet and the amount of disfigurement perpetrated by the factory and sometimes a combination of both |

Though it's a bit unsightly, I highly doubt it will cause any pressure problems, especially given he has a 5.56 chamber.

My main concern with crimping is the uneven pressure on the bullet. so when fired it will push the bullet into the lands off center. I know the crimp wont drive up the pressure but a bullets going into the lands/rifling would of its a tad off center. Just my thoughts on it, but I don't think much so take it for what it is.

You should see the crimp I put on 30/30 rounds.
Pull them and send them to me. Veral Smith is a proponent of the Lee factory crmp die. I crimp most everything,,,sometimes 'light', sometimes heavy.
