Went on a search for an in stock Springfield Armory Range Officer in 45acp. I found plenty of the 9mm ones locally but well a 1911 is just supposed to be 45 acp. After calling around I finally found one about a one hour drive away.
When I got there not only did I get the Range Officer (a very nice pistol by the way) but I also found this.

It is of coarse a 1903a3 built by  Remington in as far as I can find late 1943.
I've been searching off and on for one of these that wasn't way out of reach price wise for quite a while and had frankly given up. I was very surprised when I saw this one for what looked like a very decent price compared to what I have been seeing them go for lately.

Indeed. That's the first high powered rifle I shot as a kid.

" We used to call them Army Rifles. Eduardo's dad bought a 1917 Enfield for about $20 about fifty years ago. "

I have an old sporterized ( probably 1960s job ) VZ 24 Czech Mauser that is as slick as a pre-war Model 70.    Thunbs Up

WOW! A Remington 1903 A3, cool find. Is the barrel a 2 groove or a 4 groove? They are great shooters, I like to shoot a CMP match with one.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

It has a nice two groove barrel. I'm looking forward to shooting it. I wont get a chance for at least a couple weeks though.

I've heard the 2 groove barrels shoot cast bullets better than the 4 groove barrels, and I can't tell any difference between 2 groove and 4 groove barrels when shooting jacketed bullets.

Changed the stock. The scant stock didn't fit particularly well and I don't really care for the look.

I got a C stock from CMP. I much prefer the full pistol grip and the thinner wrist.

That looks like the rifle I shoot now. That stock is stronger than the original 1903 stock. I've seen a lot of 03 stocks that have hair line cracks in the wrist. As much as I hated to, I replaced an original 03 stock with a repo scant stock from SARCO so I could shoot the 1903 and not worry about getting a sharp stick in the eye.
Have you had a chance to shoot it yet?

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. All I have for 30-06 right now is some Remington 150 grain Core Locks. Not the most accurate stuff out there. Time to load up some  I guess.

If you can get some of the Greek CMP 30-06 it's pretty good stuff, and accurate for surplus ball. Comes in M1 clips.

I have some 168 grain Hornady A-Max bullets and some 4064. All I need is some cases and I'm in business.
