Again I need your help... I've got a zeiss conquest 4.5-14x50 with the rapid z1000 reticle mounted on my hunting rifle. being a newbie to all of this, I found out the other evening that this reticle is terrible for hunting in low light. Lesson learned. So now I'm looking for a heavy plex reticle to put on this rifle and I've come across a GREAT deal on the vortex viper hs 4-16x44 with their v-plex. I've read reviews where the only complaint of this scope is that thev-plex reticle may be a little too thin for low light hunting! I'm looking for any experience and advice on this scope. I'm sure many of you have them and/or have looked through them. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance! Josh

Josh,
I have a 4-16x44 Viper HS mounted on my 7mm-08 and have not had any problems with the reticle in low light situations. I shot a doe this past weekend at 7:00 AM in some pretty thick timber and had no problems. My only issue with this scope is that the eye piece gets very picky at 10x and above which is only an issue at the range for me as I rarely use the scope in the field above 8x. The glass is ok, but no where near your Conquest which may leave you wanting more. Personally, I would look at trading in your Zeiss with SWFA on another Ziess with the appropriate reticle. |

I ordered the same scope, but sent it back. I compared it to my Meopta 3-9x42mm when it was night time. I could see the thick Meopta 4a reticle a lot easier. For me, I could have gotten by win it. Hope that helps.

Send your Zeiss in and have them put a #4 reticle in it. I have the 4.5-14X50 with the #4 and you will not have problem in low light
