I need an optic for a lightweight single shot I'm in the process of putting together. I've bBeen looking, and looking to no avail. I know of the Leupold offering in 1x, but I'd really like to get something that offers a little more magnification. Trijicon has the TA24 model with the special ring mount, but the price tag is a little hard for me to swallow at the moment. I recently sent an email to Primary Arms and Vortex optics asking if their prism scopes can be used without the riser, as they appear to be removable (PA in the case of the 4x). PA says nope, and I haven't heard back from Vortex yet, though I emailed them a few days later as an oversight.

There's a plethora cheap imported ACOG simulators and look alikes, but that's a no go. This little carbine may see some rough handling up in the hills.

Are there any options I'm missing? Primary concerns are bulk, weight and longevity, with cost an additional factor, but not a deal breaker for the sake of this post.

For now, the rifle will remain optic-less, and if the time comes I'm debating the Leupold Prismatic, or the Ultralight 2.5x20 model (not a prism sight, but shorter than most, and light. I'm also considering some aperture sights, but have found all I need for that already.

Thanks everyone

Why prism?

At what ranges will shots be taken?

Do you have interest in a traditional tube scope?

And you would be wise to avoid the ACOG knockoffs, they "look" similar, as a rule, but lack the quality, reliability, and dependability that define the ACOG line.

ACOGs are great, but they are 20 year old tech, there are now great options in a similar size package but with variable magnification.

Have you considered a 1-4X tube optic?

Equality is something you whine about not being given.

Most prism scopes are really intended for ARs, so mounting them on a single shot appropriately low may be a challenge.
Why not just get a conventional low power scope for it? There are a few still available, like the Leupold 2.5x20 and 1.5-5x20

There are others as well.
