You may have noticed, during reports of the recent dustup in Paristan, that French Police were armed with Ruger Mini 14s. The unusual stocks appear to be the same model that Numrich sold a few years ago, which were probably production overruns for the French/Ruger contract. The stock appears to be more than an inch longer than the standard short Mini stock, overcoming one of the Ruger's main failings, imho.

These French Rugers have been mentioned on the net, in the past few years.

Those don't look bad at all…

Yes, i noticed. Those officers are the regular cops in riot-emergency mode. Their SWAT use the locally made bullpup in 5.56 mm and i assume they shot the scum with their Sako TRG.
Sadly, it is turning into Eurabia and many Europeans are sick and tired of it.

Stock length is one of those YMMV situations.

I have (and like) Mini-14's.  At average height, the stocks on mine fit just fine.  The current stocks are also easy for my wife to handle.

I know from lots of shotgunning that a "too long" stock is a serious handicap when hunting.  A "too short" stock can be dealt with, as long as the recoil doesn't hit you in the nose with your own thumb. (Unlikely, when you're shooting a .223.)  I would much rather go into a gun fight or home defense situation with a shorter stock than a longer one.  It's more maneuverable, and won't hang up on your clothes or your gear.

A slip-on recoil pad might be a solution for those of you who find the stock too short.  However, I'm sure this crew can be more inventive than that.

No gun is perfect.  I wish the large-cap magazines fed with a straight push instead of being rocked into place.  Better yet, perhaps the Mini could be modified to accept the same magazines as our military rifles.

Accuracy improvements would also be welcome, as long as they don't interfere with functioning.

Finally, I'd like to see the rifle equipped with detachable sling swivel studs.  This would allow easier use of 1 1/4" slings (which I find much more comfortable than 1" slings, and just as handy).
