Havent post any hunting pics in a while so here are a few. Ive been hunting with my middle Grandson mostly, my other grandkids have little interested.
Think this is from September of last year. His first pig. We shot it the night before under the moon. All these pics are from Ft Hood. It's shotgun only. He's not as good as the photo looks, about 15 1/2 inches. This one would've run over him if he didn't shoot. Got this coyote this morning. Getting tough to call them with distress calls alone. Used female vocals to get him to move in. Corned a small area for pigs last night and put my game cam out. These last two cam from it.

No, They don't even call me that-unless they're being smarta$$es. Grandkids ARE freakin cool though, you can just do the stuff you want to do with them and let their parents deal with the headaches. |

Meant to include a bit more info on shot gunning for predators. Cyl. Choke or Improved cyl, with Federal buckshot flight control shells is pretty lethal. In the photos of the coyote I killed today, that's a Remington 870 with a twenty inch smooth bore slug barrel, Mesa Tactical saddle mount and Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic purchased from my fellow Texans at SWFA. The Flightcontrol three inch 00 buck will shoot about a 30 inch pattern at 40 yards. AND, they cost a fraction of price of the Hevi Shot "T" shells I used to shoot. Don't need a special choke for them either. That said, the Heavy Shot works damn good. Hornady also makes them, think the wads are the same but called Versatite.

Mostly I use a Foxpro, sometimes MFK diaghrams once in a while. Here's two different call sequences I've been using, both work. All these are Foxpro names, if you use something else, they likely have the equivelant. Female Yodel or Female Long Howls-just a couple of howls, don't over do it. Wait a couple minutes. Alternate Female Whimpers and Female Submissive for several minutes. There's probably several coyote vocals you can use here, the point is, let the coyotes know an intruder is in they're area and don't use any aggressive sounds. Last, use whatever distress sound you prefer. The coyotes are territorial and don't like strangers poaching they're food source. Pup Howls, use several of them, a minute or so apart. Yipping Coyotes do this off and on for 5-10 minutes. Then use distress sounds alternated with coyote pup screams. Hope that helps and good luck! |

I always thought these were grey foxes too. Ive never heard of a swift fox which doesn't mean that isn't one. This is Texas and we simplify things. A deer is automatically a whitetail unless it has an adjective in front of it, like "mule". A Pepsi, a rootbeer and a Nehi Strawberry are all Cokes. If you ask for a "pop" your liable to get a fat lip. If i tell my hunting partners thats a Swift Fox, they will respond like Kickboxer did.
I called in a different fox, of whatever kind, about ten days ago. It was drizzling rain and nasty outside. When it came in, I didn't know what it was at first. It looked like a monkey on all fours. Then it dawned on me that he was soaking wet and his fur was matted down. looked like a whole different species. I didn't shoot him because I was hunting Ft Hood and shooting foxes is against the rules. Here's a pic of a bobcat I got on Wednesday. |
