I am trying to decide on a scope for a R700 AAC SD .308. Main use will be hunting and some target shooting just to improve my ability i am just wondering if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the Burris XTR II line. Thinking either 2X-10X or 3X-15X any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks
(if there is any info already on here please point me in the right direction.)

There are several nice demo units on the sample list. Here is a 3-12x50 for $599:   http://www.samplelist.com/Burris-3-12x50-Xtreme-Tactical-XTR-Rifle-Scope-DEMO-C-P78381.aspx

jdnan:  Thats the wrong scope.

I hate to do this, but I'm thinking about selling my XTR, rings and motorcycle and jumping up to the XTRII.  Sure would like some comment before I take this leap also.

I come from this being able to say I generally love Burris optics. . .As in better than anything else I've tried in store or out.  I would love the .1 mil exposed knobs, FFP reticle and reasonable weight.

The trouble is, should I be thinking selling the bike for an XTRII at $1199 and a sailboat or just a USO 5-25 at $3135??

Why not look at the Super Sniper line up? 3-15 or the 5-20. I own a 5-20 and love the thing. Mil/Mil FFP is sweet. The USO is sweet too but do you really need it or just WANT it? You have to ask yourself that question. You can buy a lot of bullets for the cost difference. JMHO!

In that price group, I think I'm more comfortable with a Burris. . .

The issue with the XTR II scopes is they haven't been out long enough for any evaluations so hard to say what the lens quality compares to or whether it is better than the Extreme series.  Features wise they are a step up but I haven't found anything on optical quality from any qualified source.  I've used and liked Burris scopes over the years as well as Leupold, neither of which seem to have huge fan bases on this forum.  I'm waiting for someone qualified to evaluate the XTR II 1-5-8.  From my perspective the justification for Euro glass would be a hand built special purpose long range rifle rather than a production piece.  I have two SWFA scopes, a 3-9 HD and the 3-15 and am impressed enough with both that my next purchase will be the SWFA 1-6 HD when they run their next sale.  I have looked through the 5-20 HD outdoors but not shot with one.  The glass is impressive for the money and has a lot of satisfied users on this forum.  If you decide to go for the Euro glass don't be in a hurry.  The dollar is getting a lot stronger against other currencies and prices should drop a bit once current inventory is sold off or manufacturers give dealers rebates to stay competitive.

You can alway PM Koshkin and see if he'd do a review on one, or jump over to opticsthoughts to see if he's done one. I've looked through a number of high end scopes and for me the 5-20 matches up. If living or working on a 2 way range I may think differently but banging steel or shooting paper at 1K. This works just fine. I can afford a Mercedes....... But I drive a Ford!
