Just as the heading states.  I am looking for the best bang for my buck in the $800 range.  I want FFP, mil/mil knobs,  Christmas tree reticle, and reliable.  Any ideas?

You could take a look at Vortex Viper line.  Many like them.

If you want a Christmas tree reticle in a FFP scopes for $800 you have exactly two options:

Option 1: increase your budget
Option 2: relax some of your requirements

If you go up in price, your options are either Vortex PST 6-24x50 with EBR-2C reticle for $1000 or a Bushnell Elite Tactical Hunter for $1200-$1300

If you give up the Christmas tree reticle requirement, get SWFA SS 3-9x42 or 3-15x42 for $600-$700.

To get into the specs that I am looking for I am ok with used as long as it has a good warranty.

http://swfa.com/Burris-2-10x42-XTR-II-34mm-Rifle-Scope-P68066.aspx
these are still pretty new but look interesting
Burris also offers a rebate after purchase

Ok Looks like Vortex PST, Sightron SIII, or Bushnell. What will have the best glass or will they all be about the same?

I can honestly vouch for the Sightron SIII as I have one on my Savage model 12.  There is anything I dislike about it, other then no zero stop. However as you probably already know, you wont find a zero stop in that price range.

Myself, I would hesitate buy that Weaver or any of the Super Snipers, I have the 3x9x42

Good Luck

I had one of these. The scope itself is OK. The turrets are mushy and not very positive in adjustment. It tracked well. I just hunted with mine and the illumination in it sucked. The entire reticle lit up and even on the lowest setting degraded night vision or dusk vision as it was. If you just plan on punching paper it's not a bad choice, if you plan on hunting, I'd keep looking.

I was referring to my night vision, not an optic.  The illumination in the Weaver Tactical is horrible.  I like the Super Slam series of Weavers but, I wasn't very happy with this scope.  It'd be great for paper punching on a range or rigining steel but it's not a hunting optic.

Good for you, the illumination in the reticle still sucks.
