Ric this one's for you, bud.

This morning as one of our employees (MCGMIKE) was pulling into the parking lot, he saw a moving rock and asked himself what is that? Curiosity being the killer that it is...he exited the car to take a closer look.

Upon inspecting, he picked it up and brought it inside. As I arrived and walked in, he said, Skylar...I have got something for you. I couldn't believe it. I have never seen one up close like before. What a cool insect.

Excellent Many of the Coleoptera are very colorful and built for endurance! Nice pics. Sometime, check out some close-up pics of mosquitoes and scales on butterfly wings. Mother Nature is awesome.

I posted these especially for you Ric.  I will have to give that a shot. It would be really tricky to take a picture of a mosquito. I don't believe the lens I have now has the capacity to do so. But challenge accepted.

bugsNbows, I have seen some beautiful framed designs where the artist used butterfly wings. No matter how pretty it was I couldn't help but giggle a bit every time I saw it because I visualized wingless butterflies walking instead of flying with a WTF look on their face.

Cool pics, Sky, but when I read the title, I was expecting to open the thread and see pics of hot babes, and I don't mind telling you, I was a bit disappointed when that didn't pan out.

LOL. It's a numbers game. We sacrifice a few creatures in the name of science (or photography) and nature re-surges their populations to greater than original levels!

Thank goodness bugs are small!!!
If they were even the size of a small dog, most would be totally terrifying to behold!!!!

budperm, Hold that thought. That bug was big and I do mean big. It is hard to tell in my big meaty paws though. I think Skylar is looking for a photo that will better show the size of that bug.

I've seen much bigger ones...  about twice that  size,  body over 3" long over 2" wide...  bugs grow big in Florida too!
That one looks to be about the size of a large dung beetle.

There was a gas station down in central Ky. that had a big bug zapper in a field behind the station. The owner had a huge collection of moths, beetles and other bugs on the wall of the station. Some of the moths were the size robins.

Ric is on to something with the bugs.  I was playing with a video microscope a while back and looking at different things under hi mag including bugs.  Take a look at just about any carniverous bug under hi mag and you'll wish you hadn't!!!  They are the thing nightmare monsters are made of!!!
