I'm pretty sure that I want to put this scope on my CZ 527 carbine in 7.62 x 39. In looking at Leupold's website, it appears that I can special order the scope to be parallax adjusted to 75 yards instead of the standard factory setting of 150 yards.
I have two questions... 1) It's only about $25.00 more for the special order, but there's a four week wait. Does the parallax setting make enough difference to be worth the wait, based on my average hunting shot being 75 yards? 2) I enjoy bench shooting and handloading (hence the need for maximum 8X higher magnification, rather than a fixed 4X scope.) I also have old eyes, so good glass is a must. Is there another scope I should be considering? Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would not worry about getting the parallax adjusted to 75 yards.
If you really want to be able to change parallax settings the scope to consider in this price range is the Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32. I have one and it is a very nice piece. I have not had a chance to compare it side-by-side against the Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 (actual magnification 2.6-7.8x), but based on past experience they are not far off from each other. However, since the Diamondback HP has adjustable focus, it will be easier to get sharp picture at a variety of distances. Diamondback HP is a fair bit less expensive, I think, so it is a good option. Ultimately, it all depends on how much you are willing to pay and how much magnification you want. For scopes topping out at 8x, the new Leica ER5 1.5-8x32 is worth a look, but it a fair bit more money Alternatively, a simple 3-9x40, like a Meopta Meopro might be a good option as well. ILya

I have that vx3 and love it, don't think you will notice the parallax at all. Very easy scope to get behind and get a nice quick sight picture. It just pulls up well not sure how to better put it.

I keep hearing good things about the Vortex... It's just scary inexpensive. I keep trying to figure out how the quality can compare for so much less.

^ I often think the same thing ^ espiecally when you also throw in the unconditional lifetime warranty, maybe we've been fleeced by other manufacturers for years?

That would be like putting a scope on a 22 and having the parallax set at 48-49 yards....
