Yesterday was Michigans pheasant opener. I was able to get my two bird limit in the first field we hunted and never saw another bird the rest of the day. This was a tune-up for next weeks South Dakota trip.

I'd love to try pheasant hunting. Maybe Skylar and I could get together on a hunt.
One of my cousins is a big bird hunter and went to South Dakota for a pheasant hunt. From his stories, I think South Dakota was a bigger challenge than the birds were.

What shotgun is that?
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Doug, the first one was a wild flush and it happened as soon as we step into the field.  The second one she locked up on.

I highly recommend any type of upland bird hunting, especially if you have a good dog along for the hunt. Its the adventure we look forward to every time out.

BeltFed, I'm using a Beretta 12ga for pheasant.

This will be second time only chasing tail in SD and the public access areas are absolutely huge !

Not quite that soon for me. Maybe next year though. When does pheasant season open in North Dakota? Maybe pyro will let us hunt with him.

Makes me really miss Maggie, my old German Short Hair.  She got her first point on a ruffed grouse, and pointed pheasant in the federal flood plain of lake ontario as well.  What a great young pup.  Beautiful rifle, dog, and hunt, Kevin.  I've hunted in S.D. without a dog, and I know we left some birds we couldn't find.  Sure wish we'd have had a pup to help that year.

OK, making opening weekend would be tough for me. How long does the season last?
