Image result for World War One CBS TV 1964

In 1964 CBS came out with a 26 episode documentary series about World War I. It was narrated by Robert Ryan. Many of you have probably seen it. I found it on Youtube. It looks like the History Channel or someone has replayed it.

Episode One is unavailable due to copyright...but this starts at Episode Two and I guess you can just keep going....

I had already been fascinated by WW I because I had found an old book when I was twelve about The Great War in a junk room at my cousin's farm.

I can't find a picture of the exact book but it was an ancient book that was published immediately after the war. Anyway, I was amazed a couple of years later to see actual film of the war.

Didn't see the television version but loved the 1957 B&W version starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester.  You should try to watch that version Ed. |

Oh, I've seen it! It's a favorite of mine! But it's not on Youtube!  ( so I stumbled upon this one...and it is adapted from the Billy Wilder screenplay so it should be pretty decent. )

Ed, you are being a bit disingenuous here... We KNOW you started WWI... (as well as the Mesopotamian war between Sumer and Elam and most wars in between...)

It's a 1968 "cult" movie that EVERYONE today should see... looks like the democrats are using its themes as a part of their new party plank...
Not a very good movie overall, but the points it makes are "right on, dude"...

I never saw it, even when I was eighteen. Lots of those "hip" movies back then were just too dorky with their weird photography and the almost "porn movie"-type music.

But I'm sure you're right. The Democrats are CHILDREN trying to play Communists.

.....and they're WINNING! Because our Opposition is freaking Indifferent!

I did a book report on "A Distant Trumpet" a day or two ago...
I thought it was/think it is a GREAT book.  Saw the movie a couple years ago... it SUCKED.  Horrible, totally unfitting screenplay that may have caused many people to never read the book.  The book is one of the best historical novels I have ever read.

I am just now reading where Matthew and White Horn are entering the Sierra Madre.

I saw the movie IN THE MOVIES in 1964. I was fourteen. I thought it was a huge, spectacular epic that sort of fell flat. All that money. I didn't know they had changed the story until just recently. What a lost opportunity.

Troy Donahue? Well....I guess they could have fouled it up with Tony Curtis or Rock Hudson....fortunately for those guys they still had a career after 1964....unlike poor Troy.

AGREED...

Why can't they remake something using real history, instead of a crap movie.  Can't have any REAL history around here... someone may actually figure out America is a GREAT place.
