Range report to follow shortly, but I am impressed, for the money especially.
Mine is a 308, soon to be in a McMillan stock (Tikka's T3 stock is almost as bad as the Remington SPS thing). With this version, they address the bottom "metal" (plastic on the T3s, aluminum on the CTR), magazine quality, they thread the barrel 5/8x24, and they put on a large bolt handle. Action is typical T3 smooth. Rail is pre-installed, no cheap-ass, throw-away rings, looks to be a winner. More to follow!

Without the stock change pricing is similar to the "street" price of a Ruger Precision Rifle. Will be interesting to compare performance and features. I paid $995 for my (early) RSR in 6.5 Creedmoor but notice some are still being sold for over the MSRP of $1,399 for 6.5 and .308j calibers. The Tikka was on my to investigate list until I stumbled across my deal on the RPR. Hope to stretch my RPR out in a couple of weeks at longer ranges with factory and handloads.

Rifle was great, it didn't like some of my hot hand loads, but when I moved to a lower grain bullet and lesser powder charge, groups tightened up.
With some breakin and some load tuning, it will perform like every other tikka I have owned. It needs the McMillan. I have cheapo stocks. |

Mine likes the 123 or 140s equally well with h4350. I just loaded to max magazine length and shoots lights out. It's never seen factory ammo....
Stock is plastic, but rest of rifle makes up for it. I have a fixed ss 6x on mine now, so compact and handy. |

Mine is a bit less "handy" with a Hensoldr 3-12 and a suppressor, but is still LOTS lighter and easier to move through brush than my other usual rifle, AIAW M.
I like it allot. My weekend hunt wasn't really a hunt, place was shot to hell, everything not dead was hiding in the daylight hours. But the gun was easy to carry, easy to shoulder, and doesn't weight 15 pounds, so...there is that. More to follow when I get it on a range and can do some accuracy testing.

And a McMillan is in the works. (I gotta say, dealing with McMillan has become a PITA in recent years. I genuinely thought about getting a chassis rather than conventional stock because McMillan and Manners have had some stock/customer service issues lately. But, in the end, I hate "precision ARs" so don't love the idea of turning an accurate bolt gun into a feels-like-an-AR gun.)
More to follow.

Tracking this topic.
Considering a 260 Rem build since I have the ammo but no rifle to go with it. Bouncing between a Rem 7 or Tikka CTR. Both would get restocked with a Manners stock.

Two completely different looking rifles. I have a friend who has a pile of Tikka's and loves them to death. All are great shooters but I find them ugly. I have a 7MS .257 and love it to death. Two of the guys that we hunt with have plain 7's that have been worked on and are monster shooters.
Maybe a chocolate and vanilla thing. 😎 |

Both are ice cream or at least suitable as a lightweight hunting rifle, which is what I'm looking for.
I bought a T3 for my son and had the same impression on its aesthetics, but it is a shooter. I like ugly rifles anyway. Less concerned when I throw it in my truck or drop from the treestand.

There you go. That's why I use synthetic stocks and not beautiful wood.

Yep I only have one gun in prudy wood.... It's a Browning A-bolt Medallion in 308. I'm afraid to take it hunting for fear of damaging it. All my other rifles are lamy or synthetic.... beaters!

People are okay with dropping a rifle from a tree stand?
Last week McMillan said the stock would go out by Friday, haven't seen a shipping notice yet. Customer Service is a dying art, it seems. More to follow.

Had a similar problem with Manner's a couple of years ago around this same time. Shot Show was the excuse I got and then it came with the wrong finish (midnight camo). I am a huge fan of their stocks, but execution was challenging in this one incident. My other three went without a hitch.
To their credit, they made things right by giving me a 25% discount on my next purchase.

Check fire!
I've never dropped a rifle from a tree stand. I meant to insinuate that I'm way to clutzy to wield a beautiful wood stocked rifle...or shotgun. Pretty sure Marine was eluding to same, RC.

There's for sure some things that would tempt me to replace my current T3 Lite: the 2" shorter barrel, Picatinny rail, larger mag, and (if Montana ever allows suppressed hunting) the threaded barrel.
But then I'd have to replace the light hunter stock that cost more than the rifle...probably just need to live with not running Seekins rings on it. :-)

Check. Never dropped one but have dinged up my fair share lowering a rifle from a tree stand. Did it to a Weatherby Mark V Eurosport with a matte oil finish.
RC: What kind of lead time did Manner's give you when you placed the order? They don't have any Model 7 stock ready to ship and are quoting me six months for a new order.

Sorry on that, it was McMillan, not Manners, corrected.
The stock was actually for sale online, sitting in inventory (sometimes get lucky with Tikka, sledom with Remington or clone.) I bought one on sale for a T3 Lite w/ detatchable and had it inletted. Will email and find out status. Patience pays big dividends when dealing with McMillan and Manners: so much business that Customer Service is a secondary priority, or seems so with me.

Stock came back when they said it would (mostly, a week delayed, paint guy was out sick, they say.)
Action fit is good, inlet fit is pretty good, a little room around the bottom metal but not much. Range report to follow. |
