I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a fixed power 6x42 meopta meopro. Already have 2 fixed 6x on other rifles (leupold m8 and sightron big sky). Please no variable power suggestionsSmile

I can give some roundabout input, but I also want to hear other people's answer to your question.

I live in a valley with wooded ridges on both sides, and lots of deer going back and forth in the evenings. In the fall and winter, I sometimes sit on my porch and watch them through different optics, in order to compare what is best to my eyes as the light fades in the woods.  I own and have compared meoptas, zeiss, swaro, kahles, leupolds, and others in a side-by-side process.

Right now I have 2 new (variable) meopros which are brighter at dusk than any leupolds I own. In fact, they are very close to a big zeiss diavari that I assumed would be the brightest scope I'd ever buy.
I also have some old conquests (which, I am told, were made by meopta), which beat the newest and best vx3's & mk4's in terms of light gathering.  So, I really like meopta glass.

and I'd like to add a follow up question of my own for any mods (regarding the fixed meopta's vs the variable ones), but dont want to hijack your thread.....

I have one. It's a VERY nice scope! It's everything you'd expect from Meopta. If you're looking for a fixed 6x, you can't do any better, unless you want target/tactical knobs, in which case get a SS or Leupold 6x42. To get better optical performance, you'd have to get the S&B Klassik 6x42, and I'm not sure the difference would be very significant, yet the price difference certainly is.

I have a Leupold 6x42 with target knobs. If you are happy with your Leupold I am sure you will be happier with the Meopta. I only have Meopta binoculars. But I think the glass is great for the price and if I was in the market for a 6x42 hunting scope, the Meopta would be it. The #4 reticle would be my choice for low light, too.

Thanks for all the info. I'm not really unhappy with the Leupold 6x42, but it is on a Ruger compact in 243 for the wife. Have heard good things about all the meopta scopes and it will go on a cz 557 6.5.Most of our hunting is in the brush so the recommended #4 is appreciated. The specs show the meopta is the heavier fixed 6x, but thats not a problem.

+1 on the #4 reticle for brush and low-light hunting.  Good luck.

Based on your post above, by the way, I WON'T recommend the Swaro Z3 3-9x36 with the #4A reticle.  However, if you were open to a recommendation for a variable for what you are suggesting using it for, that is what I WOULD suggest.Wink  Good luck in whatever you choose.

You should check out this thread and the comments from a lot of folks on this site that know a LOT more about optics than me.  I personally own it, it's lighter and just as short as the Meopro, and you can't go wrong with swaro glass.  Plus, it's crazy for that price, especially if you're hunting in cover, and don't anticipate needing to crank the turrets.

I owned a Leupy FX-3 6x42 and a Meopta Meopta 6x42 last and parted with both. No issues with either but I'm not really a fixed power guy.

Comparing the two the Meopta seemd to be better for  contrast and resolution but it's a bigger heavier scope than the FX-3.

The Meopro is tough to beat for the price.

Thanks Ghost, the sightron 6x beats the leupy in those areas too (for my old eyes)They just don't make it anymore, so the meopro seems like a good alternative.
