There really isn't much in that category. I only know of 2. First is the Primary Arms 1-6ACSS, second is the Vortex Strike Eagle. I wouldn't recommend the PA one because of quality. The Vortex is likely a little better, but that zoom range seems to be asking a lot of that budget. I would recommend the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 for $500 or SWFA SS 1-4x24 for $400. Those seem to be well loved.

For $1000:
-if you want FFP reticle, get SWFA HD 1-6x24 -if you want SFP reticle, get Leupold VX-6 1-6x24 Also worth mentioning: Sightron S-Tac 1-7x24 is pretty decent if the reticle works for you (it was not love at first sight, but I got used to it). I have one that has been holding up really nicely on a 458 SOCOM. Never skipped a beat. Burris has a new XTR II 1-8x24 coming out, but I am not sure if it is out yet. I briefly saw a prototype and thought it was quite good. ILya

If you can jump to $1,000, consider jumping to $1400, then the Vortex Gen2 is in the mix, and it is a good scope!

I just read a nice review on the Burris 1x8. The poster has both and said they were about equal.
I'm not sure what I need as far as FFP or SFP. This is where I start getting confused...lol I know I need the dot to be big enough to shoot close 3 gun targets but also small enough when zoomed in to 6 or 8 power to hit smaller targets or even better yet MOA at 200 yards.

If there is an illuminated center (not whole reticle) FFP is a good fit. Do you dope turrets or reticles (or just guess)? That too is a deciding factor in FFP vs SFP.
For me, I like to dope the reticle, so FFP is what I run. But I also run them at 1X much of the time, so center dot is essential. |

I only have hunting type scopes right now so I just guess.
I think I have narrowed my choices down to either the Burris XTRll or the Primary arms Platinum series 1x8. I just need to decide if I need to spend $400 more dollars on the Platinum over the Burris. Rancid, Thanks for the FFP advice. |
