I recently bought a pair of scope mounts and tried to mount my scope and the front of the scope sits on the barrel , the guy in the shop said that he can order higher mounts, but suggested I try putting some rubber between the scope tube and the mounts, because the scope should be as close to the barrel as possible for accuracy...should I wait for the new mounts, which are pretty higher, or just insert some rubber on the old ones and live with the ~0.7mm gap ?

What mounts and scope do you have now? I'd suggest just utilizing a taller ring rather than a rubber shim. BTW, welcome to the OT Forums.

There are many valid reasons to mount close to the barrel but accuracy is not one of them. |

The guy at the ship is an incompetent moron.
Do not listen to him and do not buy anything else from him. Get higher rings from someone reputable. ILya |

This is my current setup with the rubber :D :
The rifle is a cz455 + BSA Optics - Stealth Tactical Range 4-16x44IR....probably not the most appropriate, but I had the scope for years and wasn't using it ... |

Luka,
Rubber spacers are just a bad idea. CZ455 is a nice rifle and unless you are very lucky, you are not getting the most out of it the way it is set up. If it is working well enough for your purposes, by all means leave it alone. However, as a general consideration: you are creating all sorts of asymetric pressure on a scope that did not exactly start as a paragon of manufacturing consistency. I have seen set-ups like this cause significant POI shift with magnification changes and a variety of other issues. There are some inserts that work well, but they are designed for that and are made out of not easily compressible materials. They are also designed to reduce a diameter of the ring to use with a smaller diameter scope. Putting an insert into a 1" ring to set it up with a 1" scope is ALWAYS a bad idea. ILya
